Well, this poll is obviously flawed, since there isn't such a thing as a 2001 TLS. Whoever had that failure has more problems than just their tranny.

Makes one wonder about all of the other polls -- hey?
Perhaps I should add a 2006 CLR AWD model too????

This topic is of VITAL INTEREST to me as I own a '98 Accord V6 Coupe and after owning the car for about 8 months, began having VERY HARD SHIFTING problems from 1st to 2nd gear. It took me 10 MONTHS of arguing with the dealership in Orem, Utah before finally going to Stockton to Malone Honda in SLC to get them to replace the tranny. After I finally got it replaced, it became public knowledge that the V6 tranny's were faulty.
Of course, the dealership/service dept. will NEVER admit that they were "faulty"....but, rather, that "individual and unrelated transmissions have had problems which are not KNOWN issues".
I'm sure most of you are aware that the Accord V6 tranny had problems at this point.
My Point is: I'm in the process of selling my car and very close to buying a 2003 CL Type-S 6-SPEED. I desperately need to know if anyone knows of any issues with this engine/tranny. The 6speed is new...so I'm expecting issues with it (just as my '98 accord tranny was new).
IF ANYONE OWNS OR KNOWS ANYONE WHO OWNS A 6SPEED yet, please let me know how it's going
I will be buying in mid-June unless otherwise decided. My other choice is a Tahoe.
Thanks Kids.

It took a while for the auto-tranny problems to surface. Little did "we" know, that a year or so later, people would be complaining about "similar" types of tranny failures (slipping/flare issues) in the 5-speed slushbox.
Wait until people have a few more miles on the 6-speed (time will tell). Heck, it only looks like the first dyno appeared a day or two ago AND there are only a few people (around here) with them. The autos have a reported/assumed 2% failure rate. If there were 100 people here, you could expect 2 people to report failures. So, the manual is probably "robust", but what if Acura bought some cruddy bearings. Take the 2% with 10-20 manual owning members and you get a 0.2 to 0.4 persons responding (I haven’t seen any fractional entities on the board of late…)
IMO, if you want a 6-speed, get it. If your concerned, wait for the 2004…
Finally, you might want to check out the NSX forum, just to see how Acura manuals hold up there…http://www.nsxprime.com/

This poll will be flawed (not only due to invalid poll options) but also because it is being conducted on a CL FORUM! Of course, the majority of votes will be for a CL.
And since...
1. I will venture to guess that the '01 owners are in much larger quantity than '02 and '03 combined on this board.
and
2. '01 cars are older and are more likely to have had problems because of being older.
then
That means that this poll is seriously flawed and can't be used to make any kind of judgement call. It's basically useless.

Please suggest something better...
And...
As you might imagine, all polls are "flawed".
I didn't see any comment in the poll about "proving" or "judging" failures.
Something to consider:
A VIN is not required of anyone to enter the data. So, someone with a Ford Explorer can come back and fill-out the data.

Hi I am one of the owners of the 2001 Acura CL with a defective transmission. I am now in need of surgery for my neck & maybe my lower back. The car downshifted on the highway at a high rate of speed, but within the stated speed limits. Suddenly it dropped into what I thought was first. I was violenty pulled forward and slammed back.I am scheduled for a pre surgery myleogram in early June. The failure happened in December and it has been a painful 5 mos. Has anyone else been hurt like I have? Is anyone thinking of doing anything legal? Please let me know.

Sorry for the bump, but I have a question.
I am in the market for an 01 CL.
Is it safe to assume from this poll that the 01 CLS Trannies are more problematic than the 01 CL Coupe?
Should I just get the non-S?
Or is it biased becasue more people on the boards are CL-S owners?
Thanks in advance.

The Type-S puts out more power, so it can "toast" the second and third gear clutch packs with less effort than the CLP.Originally posted by WILLDOGS

I had some slipping of the tranny. Took it into my local dealer today, ten minutes later they were ordering me a replacement. I have 34K miles.
