Acura's DE-TUNING our cars
So I've got an 01 CLS and "surprise" my tranny went at about 70 000km (I'm from canada) so i took it into the dealer (north toronto acura), they were more than pleased to fix it for me and told me that it was all under warranty. I got it back after 3 days. After driving it for a week, the car seemed slower, the shift points were different and for some reason was getting better gas mileage, it seemed as if I lost tons of power and torque, so I phoned the dealer and asked what they did to my car! The service technician said that along with a new tranny and torque converter, they put an updated computer and swapped my fuel system to something less aggressive, he said the shift points were changed to extend the life of the tranny and the fuel system was changed so the motor would not output so much power. DOEN ANYONE ELSE SEE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS!!!! firstly, no one asked me permission to modify the settings on the car, this is not the same quality vechile that I bought, I payed $30 000k for this car. If I wanted a slower one, i would of bought the regular CL. second if i didn't phone no one would tell me what they did, is that honourable, and finally and most importantly, instead of fixing the problem of a defective tranny design, they change everything else to suit a tranny with a bad design. It's a band-aid fix if you ask me. can anyone tell me what i'm supposed to do now! has anyone else had a similar experience. Is it worth complaining to ACURA itself? sadly i can say that because of this problem and the manufactures dishonesty, i'll proably never buy another acura again.I really do love the car, but maybe it's time to let her go...

There's actually be a LOT of people on this site that have complained about the same thing. I was one of the lucky ones. They just replaced my transmission, and that was all. Car felt exactly the same after I picked her up. Of course she felt a tiny bit faster, because I had a Mazda6i rental. But yeah.

From all the complaints about shift point changes and slower CL's post oil jet/transmission replacement...
there is no hard numerical evidence (in the form of track times and dyno #'s) that show a decrease in the performance capability of the car after these "fixes".
Mine felt just fine after I got it back w/ the new transmission.

I spoke with an Acura tech today on this issue. I thought my second tranny seemed to shift very hard from 2-3 upon hard acceleration.....different than my first tranny.
He stated that the updated PCM changed the shift points on hard acceleration (lower revs), and the overall acceleration (slower) to help prolong tranny life. So I think there is some validity of them detuning our cars, although a before and after dyno would really speak volumes, instead of just thoughts.

I too think I am the victim of this de-tuning bullshit, I called the local dealership and asked for a swap so I could get my old PCM back and they said they dont "Trade" and i'd need to pay 1400 for the older model PCM. I wasn't aware they change the fuel system also? is this true?

Read all about it here and they still need to update this doc....change PCM P/N to -315RM for the 2001 CL-S.

More info here on why the fuel pressure regulator swap is needed. They combined this with the PCM swap.
