actual stats on bad trannies
hey guys,
i'm looking at picking up a 01 CLS, and my main concern are the bad trannys that i keep hearing about.
how much of a concern should this be for me?
are there any real numbers on what percentage of CLs have bad trannys? or is this an inevitable problem?
i prefer a manual, but i cant afford the 03, and i cant wait for prices to drop as i need a new car this year.

I just purchased a 01 CLS last week, and was having the same dilemma that you and many others have faced. Like you I could not come up with the money to purchase a 03 6 speed. I spoke with the salesman that sold me the car, and he said that they frequently have cl's in the shop because of the tranny. He also said that it would not take longer than a week to replace the tranny. If you are looking at one at an Acura dealer don't worry about the tranny since it would be certified, and the powertrain warranty would cover the tranny up to 100,000.

The tranny on my '01 CLS went at 41,000. The car literally wouldn't go. Dealer said he'd never seen one that bad. Got a new one within a week (and a loaner while I waited). Currently at 50K, this is my second Acura (first was a '93 Integra) and I love my car! Good luck!

i got all worried too but i didn't find out about this till i already put a down payment on the car. You shouldn't really be worried, if it goes then they replace it anyway so youl have a brand new tranny!

well it wont be brand new, it will be a remanufactured one
i bought a CL-S bout 3 weeks ago, found out tranny was not so great, told my dealer and i dropped it off weds, told today that it was ready. i got a remanufactured tranny, fixed engine mount and it took about 4 days to get it done. i got an xterra to drive around in the meanwhile which was pretty nice. so i wouldn't worry too much, acura will take care of you ;]

my trannie went at 38,500, brought into the dealership and had it replaced no problem. warranty has been upgraded to 100k miles also, so unless the 2k1 your looking at has that many miles, u dont havet to much to worry about. never had a problem with service from any acura/honda dealer. Got to drive a new tsx for a week too, while i was waiting.
