What size tires are you guys running on the stock CL-S rims?
I think my stock tire size was 205-50-17, but the rim stuck out furthur then the tire So I went with 235-45-17 and it works out better.
What size are all you guys running and what tires?
I have Fusions ZRi on the front, but am gonna rotate them to the back cuz there a summer tire and my backs are HRi and they are all-season so im gonna throw those on the front.
Thanks for the input!

Most 235/45/17 will fit but the tire has to have a really strong bead or it'll pop off.

Keep on eye on the tread wear - you might need to up the psi to keep the wear even. My Pirellis were wearing a little quicker at the outside at the stock 32 psi. Upping it to between 36 and 38 corrected that.

I'm running on 225/50/17's and love it.
It gives it a wider and lower look. Im looking to slam her soon in the near future, so I don't think I'll be able to ride with this set up because of the rub, but for now im really enjoying it.

Untrue, I have NEVER in my 6+ years on this board heard of a failure of 235-45-17 tires on stock CLS rims.

I have run many sets of 235-45-17 tires on 02 & 03 CLS rims.

Some tires however may be hard to balance out right. Using a good hunter road force balancer should take care of that.

It is a little wider, but the overall diamiter is the same from a 235/45/17 to the stock 215/50/17. I'm running the Toyo proxes 4's in the 235 and there is no problem at all.

How does sizing down in sidewall result in the same diameter? Am I missing something?

It's because you went fom 215 to 235. So to keep the same diameter you have to cut down to 45 series. Tirerack.com has pretty good info on it. If you pick any tire and click on sizes & pricing, you can see which tires have the same outer diameter. It's a nice tool.

By keeping the same overall diameter, you'll keep your speedo correct.

If there is a difference it's negligible. I still get 28-30MPG all HW on road trips.

This happened to a buddy of mine several years back with a set of Falkens (I think). The installer suspected that it wouldn't hold and over-inflated it while it was still on the rack. It's a good thing he did as moments later it popped off on one side. My buddy ended up putting on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1s 235/45 which were fine. I do agree that probably 99.9% of people don't have any problems but just wanted to pass on the info that it can happen.

All other things being equal, there won't be any difference as you are not changing the size of the contact patch - just the shape. Going wider improves cornering grip but does nothing for straight line.

So the 235 does not so solely represent the width? How would going wider not increase rolling resistance?

That is the width but the width of a tire does not change the size of the contact patch - just the shape. The size of the contact patch is determined by vehicle weight and tire inflation pressure. This is why most people drop the inflation pressure during drag racing and sand driving - that will increase the size of the patch. Going to a wider tire will result in a wider but shorter patch. Since you are not changing the patch size, the rolling resistance does not change either. Now again, this is with all other things being equal between the two tires you are comparing like weight, amount of tread contacting concrete, rubber compound, etc.

i've been running 235/45/17 for years, about 3 sets of tires and never had a problem. i also drive pretty hard sometimes and the tries have been fine.

it also gives the car a better stance too
