width of the tire has nothing to do with the speedo... 225 or 235 will not effect the speedo reading.
you meant to go 45 on the profile... instead of 40. (this changes the diameter/overall sie of the wheel and that changes the speedo)
40 profile is only 1.3% smaller than stock diameter so it's all good.
I'd rather have a fast speed than a SLOW speedo... less likely to speeed

Remember, a 235/40 tire means that is 235mm wide and the sidewall is 40% of the 235mm, or 94mm. Running a 225/40 means the sidewall is 90mm tall. You'd be surprised how much that 4mm can effect the speedo reading. Also, having a faster speedo means you will rack up miles faster and have inaccurate readings. If your insurance keeps tabs on your mileage they may bump up your premiums because of the higher readings. You also take a hit on resale value (and dont say you never plan to sell the car because you will).
