What kind of snow/all season tires are you using this winter?
Just curious if anyone has a good recommendation on a set of winter or all season tires for the chicago area winters for our CL's? There will be plenty of snow and this is the first winter season I will be going through with the CLS. It sucks that, and I am not sure if its just my car or 6MT in general, but my car does not have traction control. Currently I have Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 and they are skiddish in the rain with about 75% remaining. So I could only imagine how bad they will be in the snow. Probably going to get a set of winter or all season tires and rims for the harsh chicago winter.

the 6mt only came with traction control and VSC on 04+ models (TL, 4 way abs)
i have used the yokohama ig20, 4th year on them, still 40% tread left. decent tires.
if you are looking for ice grip, get some studded tires, otherwise any decent winter tire (no such thing as snow tires anymore as winter tires are meant to be put on around 50 deg and below) will be fine. as i always say about winter tires (for people who don't believe in them), it's about the emergency capability of them. sure you might stop and go in regular traffic just fine, but for that one time that you might panic, it's a life-saver.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS's are the best all-season tires I have used in the snow. If you have the extra space for a set of winter tires, by all means go for it. However if you are willing to make a compromise then I highly recommend these tires for all-season use. With the VLSD and good tires you will have minimal traction issues in midwest snow falls.
They do have relatively soft sidewalls, however the predictability and wet/snow traction make them a good choice for all-season use.
Previous tires: Dunlop SP5000, Yokohama AVS db, Pirelli P-Zero Nero, Previous generation Conti Extreme Contact (noticeably different than current version)

Whats up with RDX owners?

I use a dedicated set of wheels for the winter with General Altimax Arctic snow tires. Ive yet to go through a big storm with them, as once I bought them after two big storms we kept dodging storms ![Annoyed](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/annoyed.gif)
They go on in a little over a month. I hope we get some decent storms, Id like to test them out.

I have Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3. While they're the highest rated winter tire on TireRack.com, they suck in the winter. They are decent in deep snow but spin and slip on ice like crazy and on wet roads too. I've had +400WHP FWD in previous cars with other winter tires and had no issues (Goodyear Ice Grip Ultra). When these Winter Sports wear out (a year or two still), I'll get something totally different. I'm really let down by them after all the great reviews they have.

I used the Toyo Proxes 4's for 2 Colorado winters. No complaints. Not the greatest tires by any means but not a bad tire either. I drove in snow plenty of times and they did fine. FWD is nice in the winters!

FWD is nice but manual transmissions aren't. Even with 2nd gear starts I spin the tires a lot.

That is totally true about the emergency part...great point. Thx!
