tread life

I measured the tread on my tires yesterday and it was 4/32 in the front and 8/32 in the rear. Traction is fine. Do you think its a good idea to rotate? I'm using 07' TL-s wheels with 235/45/17 Michelin tires. I'm due for an alignment.

I have to take a look. Is 4/32 not too low for the rear? Will i spin out on hard turns?

I'd be more worried about low tread on the front.

I've been researching the topic of where the better tread should go (front vs rear) and someone pointed out this article by tirerack.com. Does this change your mind, or is this totally off the wall?

i've read something similar at my mechanics shop when getting a trany flush. I agree totaly. if you have worn tires in the rear, you have less traction and have a greater chance to oversteer regardless of what kind of suspension you have. Understeer can easily be controled. i'll just wait to get new tires before i rotate.

I'm in a similar situation, I had an oil change done today and according to them my front two wheels have less than 3/32 remaining, while my rear wheels have "7/32 or more" remaining. I'm probably just going to have them rotated though. Haven't gotten a chance to actually measure it myself though, so i don't know how accurate it is.

depends on your conditions really.. if you were in a sunny state i wouldn't care much if the 4/32 was on the front or the rear, but NJ ... i'd rather keep them on the rear

and the legal limit is 2/32 so you should be looking for replacements anyway
