Question TOKICO Illumina shock squeak..HELP anyone!!

Hello everyone,

Your forums are great and informative, much of you guys know your stuff...i've learned a lot...

My current setup- Illuminas w/ tein h-techs, 18in ADR battle with Kumho ASX 225/40/R18

I have tried everything that you guys suggested, like lubricating everything, Im not sure if this is normal, OK I have the setting on "3" on rear shock and "2" in the front shocks because i think its a good combination of comfort and handling...but it squeaks everytime i go over bumps in the road!! i went back to where i got them installed...they said it was normal and said it was the "gas" realeasing from the shock that was causing the squeak.....but i was little convinced...because he told me to put the setting on 4 or 5 and the squeaking should stop...and i can barely hear it...but the ride is very harsh...but the squeaking when i drop the setting is so freaking annoying....squeaks or chirps...on every freaking bump!! is this gas/sqeak noise normal?? is there a way to get around it? anything i can do the dampen the noise or something? i mean im not totally sure if all of the shocks were making the noise but im sure the the 2 rear shocks are because i can hear it...but almost disappears when i put it on high settings....i dunno....can anyone have suggestions?

Mine had a small squeak too, were you sure to position the rubber parts on the bottom of the spring when you reinstalled them. If you didn't, this can cause a metallic squeak. Mine make more of a woosh sound when they are compressed, but not a squeak.

Good luck ming

was all this immediately after the installation of the Tokicos? it sounds like you've done what i would have already. i have the Illuminas as well and all i get from them is a little hiss when going over a speedbump. try calling Tokico's US dept?

mine have been on for about a month now and they are still squeaking. I think it may be the boot breathing on the piston rod. try setting yours to 2 and see if they make any more noise please. mine are silent at 4 and 5 but at three and below it is horrible. thanks jim.

My Illuminas squeaked at first, too. I pulled out the back seat and sat back there while wifey drove, and confirmed that it was coming from the upper mounts. I did 2 things to make it go away

1) The shop had set them on ONE, so I changed the setting to 3. This made a HUGE difference. I think they are constantly moving when they are on the lowest dampening setting.

2) I sprayed the upper mounts (rubber donuts) with silicone spray and gave them a little extra tightening on the compression nut. That killed the remaining noise.

No squeaks now.
