Tire Tread on 03 CLS 6 Speed
Hi, new to the board. Great resource by the way.
I suspect I'm the only one here with this issue but you never know. I still have the stock tires on my 2003 CLS 6 speed. I only have 13k miles on it (commuted into Philly the last 2.5years) but my tread depth is 5/32 and 3/32 for the front and rear respectively. They do not show wear that would indicate the car was out of alignment. I assume the lack of use has somehting to do with it but I wouldn't think to this degree.
I talked to the dealer and they said it is unusual and that they have heard of this on TLs but not on CLs.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.
Thanks.

You say the wear doesn't look to be related to alignment. A few other possibilities could be:
1) Agressive cornering.
2) A lot of city (stop & go) miles.
3) Improper inflation.
4) Not rotating the tires.
Even if you combine these, your wear still sounds too extreme. I just hit 50k on my OEM Michelins. (Mostly hwy miles, but I like the feel of cornering too!) I still have enough tread to be legal, but it's about time for some fresh rubber.

I got around 20,000 miles on OEM and one other set of Summitomos- Down to about 5/32. They were legal but the stability control came on frequently in the rain and the ride was harsh. New tires fixed both problems. IMHO, tire that are barely kegal are dangerouus. 3/32 is barely any rubber at all. Get a new set.

Thanks for the input.
I don't beat on my car, i.e. aggressive cornering or spinning out. I have had the tires rotated once per Acura's guidelines and am a freak about tire pressure. I know this is a shot in the dark but I'm going to pursue this further with my dealer to see about getting a set of replacements. Will go with the Yokos if that doesn't work.

I now drive an accord....
My stock tires were bald at 18K miles. I didn't really care though since they were junk since day one. Im much more happy since I got my yoko's on now.
Your just going to waste your time persuing this through the dealer. They don't warrenty wear and tear items such as tires. You must go to the tire mfg for such issues, but be warned even if they do decide to do something it won't be much since they will prorate the wear.
