Tire sidewall bubble
Tire sidewall bubble
I have a 2003 6sp CLS. 31,000 miles on the car and it's a lease. I'm turning it in August 2005. So the other day I discovered a nice bubble in the left front sidewall, on the outside- I have no idea what it's from. It's probably 1.5" diameter and sticks out 1/4" or so (estimate). I have the crap original tires on the car still. The tread wear indicators on all 4 of the tires are pretty close at this point.
Is there any tire you guys would recommend? Remember...i'm less than a year from turning in the car- which means i don't wanna spend too much to fix this problem if i don't have to. I also have to get through a NY winter- so summer tires are probably not the route I wanna take at this point. Thanks for any help.

apparently these "bubbles" are common on the lower profile tires. i'm told it's from hitting potholes. large ones apparently.
check the tires/suspension board. you'll find lots of threads on replacement tires etc. if you search you'll also find some threads on "bubbles"......

You could have hit a pothole or the tire was "marginal."
The sidewall bubbling in the stock (OEM) tires in not new. Here is just one thread of many:

As for your new tires...
Since you don't plan on keeping the car long, you might want to make sure you have a tire that meets the factory size and load rating -- or at least get some more feedback here.

I had the same thing happen to me at about 20,000. Whatever replacement choice you make, I'd get it done ASAP. Those things can be seriously dangerous -- the tire can blow on you, particularly if you're driving at highway speeds. :padlock:
