Tein SS Upgraded coils
Tein SS Upgraded coils
Need some advice. I am going to upgrade the SS coils. To the members that have done the upgrade: Did you upgrade fronts and rears? and which spring rates did you opt for? I was told I could go with 5 or 6kg for the rears and 8 or 9kg for the fronts. I like a finger and a half gap. Currently with the accord coils I am bottoming out. Will the upgrade help this?

No racing at this point in time. I am looking for a good happy medium between performance and comfort. That is why I got the SS. I have adjusted the dampers full stiff and still have the problem.
my first concern is you need to find out why your car is bottoming out..check the shocks and make sure they are properly working...how low are you dropped? Also to clarify, when you say you're bottoming out do you mean when you hit a bump your tires hit the fender or the bottom of you car scrapes the pavement?
here's my suggestion based on the assumption you have everything stock except the coilovers
well if you wanna upgrade for a little more performance, imo i'd go with 8k front and 6k rear..this will put you at about 450front and and 336 in the rear or maybe keep the fronts at 7k (i believe that's what your tein comes with off the shelf) to make it 392f and 336r...with the rear shocks not being able to handle more agressive spring rates it really hinders what you can really do as far as neutralizing your car..especially in a heavy car like the cl..so you have to play with your swaybar settings and stuff
I'm not an expert on the cl so there should be others to chime in...i'm just giving you suggestions based on my general knowledge of suspension tuning...but you should try upgrading the rears to 6k and leave the fronts at 7k (this will help prevent understeer more if you don't have a thick rear swaybar) and see how you like the rates...if don't like how turn-in feels then you can upgrade the fronts...start playing around with your shock settings also

I don't have them, but I've talked to Tein on a number of occasions.
Talk to them or talk to them again.
You might consider bumping the front spring rate by one stage (the guys at Tein will know what I'm talking about). They recommended a slightly higher spring rate for me when I called them a while back (I don't own them at this time). I have the Comptech sways + SSR 17x8 Comps + Toyo 235/45-17 T1S tires + additional strut bar.
This is just a suggestion after considering them for my car and watching reports from other members and talking to the techs at Tein.
The car is so very front heavy that, IMO, it could use a higher spring rate in the front. You should get the car to ride right first, and if the balance is "funny," consider changing the sway bars (either front or rear) to change the roll stiffness to compensate. IOW, if you find the car now "pushes," you could go to a heavier sway bar in the back or a stock one in the front. I don't know what swaybars you have in the car, so...
There is a point where turning up the dampers so far as to "weld the springs up" is not great for the suspension bushings, ball joints, etc.
YMMV
