TEIN SS coilover owners…What are your shock settings ???

So I’ve had these things on for about 2-Weeks now.
Except for chasing a minor rub on the driver side rear, I’m pretty happy with the setup.

Right now I’m running on the “standard” shock setting which is 8-clicks down from full hard.
It still seems to still be slightly softer then my car was with the stock shocks & Comptech springs.
This is great for the highway, but lousy on the curvy back roads.
I think I’ll take it UP another setting or two.

So the question is….
What are yours set at ???
Are they different front/rear ???

Thanks,
Shawn S

I have mine set at 14f/15r and I'm on stock 01 rims with 225/45 tires. I have never rubbed and my height is set so you can just barely get 2 fingers between the tire and wheel well. I am considering getting the upgraded springs though because over smooth rolling bumps the front seems to bounce. over sharp quick bumps the car is nice and stiff. I've tested it over certain tall speed bumps and my front seems to bounce 3 times in front and only once in back. If it was balanced right it should be an even amount, but since this is an accord setup I think it's a little too soft in front. I don't know why tein just didn't throw in a higher spring rate in the first place for the cl-s

Over all I like them. I've had mine now for almost two years and about 18-20,000 miles. They have been through a brutal chicago winter w/tons of salt. I love the height adjustability for the winter when I raise it up and put the winter setup on. It's very conveinent. Plus I'm not plowing my own streets then.

Plus how are you setting yours when I go firmer I go clockwise and counterclockwise for softer. I first start all the way counterclockwise until it stops then start to count the clicks as I go to 14 clicks clockwise and 15 in back respectively. I've heard people do it the opposite way so I'm hoping I'm doing it right.

the reason your car is bouncing isn't because of the springrates it's because of the struts. If you put on a higher spring rate it'll bounce even more keeping your same settings. The reason the front bounces more than the rear is because 1) rear shocks are set at higher dampening level 2)front springs have higher springrates than rear springs 3)more load on the front of the car

you should try clicking your front knob a little higher and see how it works for you

i have no experience with tein but i'm simply speaking from my minimal understanding of suspension components

The bouncing I'm referring to is not a stiff sudden bounce due to an over stiff suspension but a caddilac/boat floating type of bounce. Like you would have in an old luxury car that is not meant for sportiness if you can kind of get what I mean.

a spring will oscillate (move up and down) naturally no matter what the spring rate

a strut will prevent this oscillation and stop the spring from moving up and down

what you describe to me is that the spring is still oscillating even with your shocks set almost to full stiff (if set correctly)

if the strut is at full stiff and working properly your car should not be bouncing going over a bump because i'm sure it could easily handle the low springrates..you should have someone take a look at your strut imo...

Mine is bouncing a bit too, but I was hoping it was because the shocks are still set rather soft.
I’m going to adjust them this weekend and see.

The manual says to start at 8-clicks back from full CLOCKWISE:

Shit I read that so long ago. I never got to see if the shock was set at the hardest setting in the first place. The shop received the shocks and put them on. I will have to try it later I was worried about over tightning so I always started from the losest setting and went from there. Thanks Shawn for refreshing my memory.

Thanks Shawn. I can't believe I've been doing wrong for almost 2 yrs now. I did it the right way and it feels sooo much better. You just saved me from buying new springs. I am now at 12 /12 the right way and it's great. I posted to help me with a problem and instead you helped me. I'm such a dumby
