Tein Basic or SS. . .?

I'm looking to buy coilovers soon, but dont know whether to go with the TEIN Basics or the SS. . .Whats the difference? Also, should I use different springs, or will the ride be comfortable and stable enough that I wont need springs. I'm not too familiar with suspension as you can see, so the more help/info the better!!!

Thanks!!

i can't say too much for the basics, but the ss is worth the $$$ if you are worried about ride comfort. i have the ss and i set them to tien recommended specs and thought they were too stiff so i kept adjusting them until i liked the ride. i think the main difference is that the ss you can adjust damper and that you need to re-use stock pillow. i was worried that if i got the basics and i didn't like the ride then i'm S.O.L. so i shelled out the extra $$$ to be safe.

i have basics. they do a very good job for smooth daily driving. they ride very close to stock. the dampners seem a little smoother though.

All of TEIN’s coilover setups include 4 shocks and 4 coil springs. Every kit is ride height adjustable but some kits offer more than that. Here is some more specific information on each model:

TEIN Basics – ride height adjustable, ride firmer than stock but are not stiff. Great street setup with a sporty feeling and good rebound but not never jarring.

TEIN Super Streets (SS) – ride height adjustable, dampening adjustability (allows you to adjust relatively how soft or firm the rebound/ride is – 16 levels)

TEIN Super Streets w/ Pillowball Upper Mounts (SS-P) – ride height adjustable, dampening adjustability, includes pillowball upper mounts (duralumin upper mount w/ spherical bearing which gives you a more direct feeling w/ the road, more responsive than stock rubber mount)

TEIN FLEX – full threaded shock body for maximum ride height adjustment, dampening adjustability, pillowball upper mounts – ultimate TEIN setup

TEIN EDFC – electronic motor that allows you to adjust the dampening of the shock

to the OP: the Tein Flex is not applicable to the CL-S, so if you want the best "Tein" setup - you're looking for SS-P with EDFC.

ExceleratePerformance man,

I appreciate your complete reply to HondaVtec21's message others can use.

What is the life expectancy of the Tein shocks? When they wear out, can you purchase just the shocks? And then what is the cost of the replacement shocks relative to the overall setup (50%, 30%)?

i also appreciate the thourough info and the "lamens term" definitions.

other than those setups you mentioned what would be needed other than an alignment or will that setup be enough to install and go? (do you NEED camber kits, and sway bars ,etc?-and what the benefits are, also if your offset on your rims is the same as stock do you need a camber kit?)

thanks for the info!

Ride height drop range is -1.9 to -3.3 in the F and -1.5 to -2.5 in the R.

Depending on road conditions and how you drive the car they shocks should last 60-75k. They can be rebuilt. I believe, but don't quote me, TEIN charges $50 per shock. I have never had to rebuild a set yet so I don't know for sure though.

You don't need anything else other than the suspension but a rear camber kit will be a good part to buy too so you can neutralize the negative rear toe and camber. However, the best bet is to get an alignment first to see how far you are off if you really want to know if you need a camber kit. Sway bars will work in conjunction with the coilovers, allowing you to reduce understeer and body roll.

3.3 is way more of a drop that the pro kit. from personal experiece 3.3 still isnt slammed. i ran my SS all the way down on the front and rear, and it was barely tucking the top of my 19s.

ksports all the way.
