Stock tires suck!!

ARGH! Man, these tires bite!!!! I only have 17k miles on them and i can't even push the throttle 1/4 of the way down without peeling them out. It's cool for passengers but dangerous when trying to merge into traffice quickly. I have never autocrossed and the majority of my driving is on the highway. I've rotated them every 3k miles and the tire presssure is good. Looks like i maybe the next board member in line for Dunlop 5000's

Same thing happened to mine, I have only 15,000 miles on them. I just replaced them with Mich Pilot Sport A/S. I'm holding onto the stocks, so when I get rid of this car in 5 years I won't have to buy new tires.

Don't wait, just get the new tires. I should have done this months ago

Are you going to be getting Dunplop 5000's on your stock wheels? If so, are you getting 235/45/17?

I was wondering.... is there any potential for the tires to dry-rot over time?? I have heard that it could happen but don't know for sure. Any thoughts??

Zap, are you thorough with your rotation schedule? That makes a big difference usually.

Yes, i think so. My first rotation wasn't until 7500 miles but i've done it three times since that point(10k,13k, 15k).

Yeah, that sounds thorough enough to me. I guess they do suck. I do not have that problem though and I got about 16K miles.

Note I have the Pilot Sport All/Season. I only have them on for about 100 miles. Definitely much stickier, even when I had newer stock tires & added the sway bars. I am running them at 35psi. Its supposed to rain tomorrow so I will push them a bit, they are rated for better traction in the rain vs dry! No slipping/drifting in the turns at all. I have not had a chance to see if I can spin them from a start yet, was waiting for a few more miles on them to seat. I was tossed between these and the toyo fz4. There is another thread running on hear about all-season tires. Someone had the fz4 and said they were not much better than the stock in the snow. I read the reviews on the Mich board, and the pilot sport a/s seems to be a good snow performer.
