sounds dumb but I cannot find..
I cannot find out how large the diameter of the front sway bar is on my cl-s.
Can someone plz tell me.
I'm looking to upgrade my sway bars. I've ordered the progress rear sway bar. And now I'm looking for the fattest one to toss on the front.
Any pointers?

No need to worry about the front that much. The rear is what you want to pay attention to and upgrade.
I had comptechs. The front sway was thicker on the inside. Stock is hollow.

Tossing the fattest bar you can find on the front is a bad idea. That will cause the car to understeer more then you want. Get the largest rear sway and go for a drive, I bet you wont even want to touch the front.

really? It's just that if I jerk the wheel going like 70mph. I can feel the back of the car respond WAY late.
I cannot figure out if it's simple the rear sway bar size or the front needs a little help also.
I just want stiff steering with the comfy CL ride... for now, till the shocks blow them I'm on to performance suspension.
I'll be putting on/getting the progress rsb next week so hopefully I'll have it on by the weekend.

A rear sway makes a big difference in responsiveness. Also, for the front, I added 27mm polyurethane bushings and it helped a little with responsiveness. Just be warned that the 27mm poly bushing from energy suspension will need to be greased to prevent squeaking. Also, they are univeral so they require a bit of ginding to get them to fit.

Just concentrate on the rear sway. The stock rear is 19mm and I believe hollow. The Progress is 23 (or is it 24?) and solid. Its a very big difference. If you were to get a bigger front sway you would negate any improvement the rear would make.

negate the rsb??? what do u mean. It could not make the car handle worse by getting the front sway bar in conjunction with the rear?
How is this possible?
The car has SO much sway the only way I can think of stopping it is beefing BOTH sway bars... NO?

What is your definition of sway? In your post above you say that if you turn the wheel quickly at 70 the car is unresponsive. Getting a RSB and leaving the front alone will remedy that, maybe not completely, but it def helps.
Doing both wont really make the car handle worse, but it wont handle any better. Many autocrossers dont run a front sway on their cars, only the biggest bar they can get in the rear. That allows the front suspension to articulate in corners and allow the rear snap around, similar to a RWD car. Ever see a pic of a Civic or Integra autocrossing and lifting a rear wheel mid-corner?
If you want to, you can experiment with the sways. Im sure you wont reach the limits of the car, so do whatever fits your driving style. But be warned, running a thicker/stronger front sway will introduce understeer.

sway is when I turn the wheel and the whole car has to align/correct itself after the fact of steering. Like, the front wheels do one thing and the car does another. At least that is my perception of it.
yes. the highway thing is straight scarry. I thought it was a blown shock but then it became clear to me it was just the way the car is.
I also don't like the body roll when making a fast maneuver. Front sway should help that I think. I understand it won't allow the car to grab corners. But I'm not tracking, just highway driving and a corner fast every here and there.

What suspension are running on right now? What your describing makes me think that you'd benefit from a nice set of coilovers.
#13
yea I want coilovers but not the harsh ride. Nor a drop. I want the stock height due to snow and the fact i'll be getting headers and I don't wanna bottom out on a sewer and fuck my headers up as I did with my Probe last year. I'm done with stupid problems that are self-created.
So right now i am running stock type-s suspension. I wanna keep the suspension but stiffen up the sway BIGGG time. AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
I cannot see the front sway bar hindering the car atall.
