235/45/17 would be the better option, many recommend it, I have yet to try and will be putting that size on for my next tires. Unless you are looking at a specific set of 225 tires that is.

im running 235/45 r17 on the stock 2001 cl-s rims for like 7 years now.
they grip bettter and alot more choices in that size.. they also protect the rim from the curbs!

im picking up a set of Bridgeston Potenza RE040 in 225/45/17 for a temporary replacement/ or use for the summer season.
I know they will fit but was just interested if anyone recomends these or not? (ps theyre used and Im paying $60 for all 4 so for the price Im sure they are worth it but Id like to hear how they actually perform too)

As u said they r temp. From the price it seems they may not hv much of tread on them, so really hard to measure a tire's performance when it is almost on the edge..

BTW that is a steal for all 4 tires..

well here's a picture of how the car sits as of now. 1 of those tires I purchased was shit and had a gash inside the sidewall that wasnt repairable so I have 3 wheels w/ the 225/45 and 1 has 215/50 lol:

E30 Cabrio,

Your car looks great. I am think of doing the same on my 2003 CLS, do the tires/rims come out past the wheel wells/fender, front or back? Having a hard time finding the rims (good ones that is) in Toronto Canada. Cheers!!

They don't seem to stick out. with the 225 50 17s there was some rubbing when turning at speed or when the suspension got close to the bottom of it's travel. No longer doing it with the 225 45 17s.

Thanks.

Are you on stock suspension and what tires did you go with?

Why would a little bit wider and lower profile tires have any different affect with the stock suspension setup?!

NOW if you were slammed and were running 19x8.5 wheels then yeah you might have a problem with rubbing...

It wouldn't. I was just curious as to whether StonedCL is stock or lowered as I'm debating if I should stick with 215's or up-size to 235's.

just got the tires mounted and put the rims on. 235s dont rub and doesnt stick out either, looks nice. If the rear was slammed tho the inner lip will hit the tire.

I was on the stock suspention untill 4-5 months ago when I dropped her on the b@G shocks and springs..
I used to have Fuzions HRI and have hazard warrenty (got 2 bubbles and blew 1 out) so Firestone no longer carries fuzions so they gave me primewell pz900 free of charge...

I'm thinking of paying the extra bucks and sticking with Michelin. I read some pretty good things about the Falken ZE 912 and nearly went with them but I'm leaning towards the Pilot Sport A/S Plus 235/45/17.

The OEM's it came with were just fine, no complaints with the MXM4's. The A/S Plus seems to be a step up in quality and performance and they're the same price.

For the price i think the MXM4's suck..
The best tire i had was prob toyo proxy's 235/45 R17..
I would stay away from the mxm4's.

Agreed. If they hadn't come with the car I wouldn't shell out $250 (CDN) for them.
They're OEM on a lot of cars, demand is high and Michelin jacks the price.
For the same money, I can plus-size and move up to a much better rated UHP.
The Poxy's reviewed pretty equal to the A/S Plus and are $40 less but I think the edge goes to the Michelins with the 500 vs 300 treadwear.
