Shock Questions

How do you determine when is time for new shocks on the CL-S 6spd. I have CT springs and Tokico HP blue on my CL with 54K miles. These were install by Acura dealer when the car had only 13K on the clock. The reason for the question is that I went to mech. shop to get a quote to install the camber kit the guy is stating that my shocks need to be changed before he install the kit. What BS is this all about?

I have done the push test on the corners and the car goes down and up without any type of constant bouncing after the initial push. i dont see any leak from the struts. Now comparing the push test to my 08 S2000 the CL feels and looks like a floating boat because its very hard to compress the corners on the S2000.

What should I be looking for?

When you hit a dip, the suspension should oscillate maybe once or twice max. If it's bobs like an old Cadillac, it's time to change them.

I think the mechanic is just trying to make extra money off you. If the camber kit you're trying to install is the rear, you can do it yourself in about 1/2 hour max.

The good news is that it does not oscillate or bob like an old cadillac. After I hit a dip or a bump on the road the car hunkers down and it feels pretty stable going into curves. I questioned the mechanic regarding his comment because originally I learned the hard way, I had CT springs installed with stock OEM shocks and by 8 months after doing this swap the shocks were shot and leaking and made unusual amount of noise just driving out of the garage. My car does not make any noise other than the rear sway bar because its not lube up.

Thats why you tell your mechanic to suck ass ... and go somwhere else. You know we are having hard times and "maechanic" is a first one who will tell you : bend over ...
