Risks in using wheel spacers?

Hey guys,
I picked up a set of ASA JH3 wheels to use on my CL. Went to get them mounted today. Took them to firestone, they said everything fit up fine. However, they said that the fit was such that they couldn't get the lug nuts in, and I would have to use spacers. They said that if I wanted to go that route, I would have to get the wheels mounted elsewhere and they wouldn't do it.

I did a little research and I've seen mixed feedback about the risks. Does anyone run spacers on their CL? Any recommendations? This car is my daily, and I'm not really wanting to mod it out. Am I better off just taking the hit and buying new wheels?

Thanks!

I would not do it.... you are putting extra stress on the lugs and hub bearings as the wheels are not where they are supposed to be...

That's what my research led me to as well. I ended up just taking advantage of discount tire's memorial day promo and getting a set of MB Five-X's. They mounted up just fine. The ASA's will be going back to CL, hopefully I can sell them

The offset was too low? You could have ran extended studs or spacers with the lugs built in. But then you'll risk rubbing, especially if the offset was really low to begin with.
