Question about new tires

i was planning on getting new tires before winter, but i blew out a tire the other day. so, for the last couple of days i've been ridin on the spare. i went to a few tire places and they have all given me estimates between $650 and $770. I don't want to spend that much for tires though. You guys have any suggestions on what tires I can get that won't cost nearly that much?

By the way, I have the stock CLS rims. Ya know, the kind that might as well come standard with curb rash.

Do a search here for sumitomo . It should turn up a bunch of low cost tire threads.

I'm riding on the spare now too. I replaced one of the stock tires that had a bubble in it with a used OEM replacement that I got from another member, but a pothole ate another tire yesterday. Tore a nice hole in the sidewall about a 1/2 inch from the rim.

I'm probably going to buy 2 yokohamo avid V4S (about $100) because I need all season tires, but since your in socal, you've got a lot more options.

I just got a set of Falken ZE-512's... Love them.. They look great, handle great and have a pretty good tread wear.

I got mine for about 67 bucks apiece, which was cost... But I have seen them go for about 80 bucks a piece. A good buy IMO. PLus they were given the best review by consumer report..

The Falkens get great reviews by Consumer Reports. Only problem is that in 215/50/17 the wieght is 91 instead of the recommended 93 for the CLS (the CLP calls for 91 IIRC). You can get around this by getting the 225 tho'.

Mine came with Kumho 711s on it, so far they are ok. Prices seem reasonable.

I got a set of Dunlop SP5000 tires 2 weeks ago. I have the same tires on my 99 SHO and am very pleased with them.

They offer much better grip dry or wet, and are far quieter. They even exceed Michelin's load range.

I got them installed for $560.
