Price to mount/balance tires

Hey guys.... whew... it's been a while since i've posted.
New job has been kicking my ass.

Anyway, back to getting new tires soon....

What price is fair to have new tires mounted and balanced at local shops?

I was planning on purchasing the tires at tirerack.com, and have the local garage mount and balance them for us.
I've been going to the same guy for a few years. He quoted me $20/tire.

It didn't sound too bad for me... but then again, that means it's $80 on top of the cost of the tires. And do any of you get roadside protection for those tires? Insurance or something.... I always thought was pointless.

Anyway, back to work for me.

really?
so it's not that much of an advantage to order from tirerack... i mean, the prices aren't that much better.

if i can find tires locally, at least the mounting and balancing is part of the price. plus, you can take your car back to get the tires rotated regularly.

mmm.... can anyone suggest any good tires places around central jersey????

thanks.

I recently sent my wheels out to california for a black satin powder coating, three step process. I went to my local Tire Zone.

They demounted the tires AND stored them for the better part of three weeks. The also removed all the balance weights. When the wheels got back, they remounted, rebalanced with the sticky weights only. They did not have to remove the wheels from the car, nor reinstall them. I did that.

$40. And they did it with a smile. I was quite pleased with the price.

but what is their selection of tires like?

i'm a member of sam's club. but their choices with tires aren't great.

do you think i can take the tires from tirerack and have sam's club mount them?

I'd say $40.00 to $60.00 mount/balance, possibly a tic more if the include lifetime balance, and rotate..

There is tire repair shop that charges 10 for mount and balance. It really a small outdoor place, but they take great care in the tires and rims. Can beat the price.

A good average price is $10 a rim/tyre. If u were to go to say Sears or Firestone u may pay the crazy ammount of $25 a rim/tyre.
