popped a tire, need help ASAP
After nearing getting sideswiped by a semi this morning, my commute officially took a dump when I ran over two nails on the freeway. Threadlife of the remaining tires are 2/32 (Falken, same as the one that popped) and 5/32 for the Bridgestone rears. Is it time to replace the rears as well?
I went to Costco but they only had the stock Michelin MXM4s in stock at $205 a piece. $70 off for 4 but a that's quite a bit more than I'm willing to pay.
My local Firestone has the following two tires on promotion for buy 3 get 1 free:
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500
My car:
100% stock
I have a somewhat heavy foot but I don't stoplight race or any of that
I live in So Cal so I'm not at all concerned about wet/snow performance
Comfort and thread life are both important to me
I also hate when worn tires squeal
My questions:
Both are 215/50/17 compared to OEM 205/50/17. Will this make a difference?
I believe the XL loan rating is fine for our cars.
Does anyone has experience with either of these? The only reviews I see for the Firehawk are all on Corvette forums. I suppose that might be a good thing. Both are $150/each (or $450/4)
I really need to get this done this afternoon since I don't want to commute on my donut.
Thanks!

with the rears being that close to being worn, i would just get a set of 4 and be done with it, for a while with the occasionally rotation (and best to have all 4 tires to match also, for best/most even handleing
and personally out of those selections you gave, i would go for those bridgestones handsdown, i don't like store branded tires, they are normally not very good compared to independent branded tires ,
but those michelins might not be too bad either idk
and i bet those falkens where some crappy tires too lol
and yeah considering that you don't like squeling tires, i would not cheap out on tires so much, since it does sound like you like to push the car occasionally
but also remember your life depends on only those 4 little contact patches created by the tires, so a quality tire does pay off in the end, especially avoiding a potential accident
and anyways as far as tire wear/warranty ratings, i would not go anything above 50k or so, they just get too hard, and you start sacrificing grip substantially for the name of tread life, i rather be able to stop and steer then to be replacing a car, cause it was not able to stop quickly enough

Seems like the speedo is only off by a little bit though, I can live with it

not even 6 hours later lol, but yeah that $700 seems about right for an semi-performance tire, but yeah i paid like $900 for my potenza's 906as (i think that is the model lol) in 245/40/r18, and that was with a discount too, cause i know the people that sold me mine (so you are probably looking at easily $1000 for my tires)
