Exclamation Performance 19"?

I was theorizing if it would be possible to go with 19" that are less in weight compaired to the stock rims and still have the same (if not better) performance?

thanks for the noob help

When you say performance I take it you mean strength?

Well the larger the wheel, the smaller profile you're going to have to go with. Sure you could get a Volk wheel which are pretty strong, but due to the lower profile tire the rim is going to be experiecing more shock if you were to hit a bad bump/pothole that normally would have been absorbed by the higher profile tire of a 17" or 18" tire.

Here in so cal, I always see these guys running around in their SUV's with these super low profile tires on these absurdly large wheels that you can tell are bent to hell because you can see the warping while the wheel is in motion and it just makes me laugh because they drive so hard on them.

Point is, if you go with the 19" wheel, be prepared to have bent rims if you hit potholes or bumps hard enough.

Oh yea, and the volk wheels are CONSIDERABLY less weight than the stock wheel I believe. but it depends on the size as well.

The lighter weight wheels can improve acceleration. I don't know how much though. If you are going to be tracking your car it'll be worth it. If you are gung ho about performance then it'll may be worth it. but for daily driving, I don't know if it's for everyone.

Phillips Ranch is a suburb of pomona. I didn't know this till we moved here. My parents bought this house thinking it was a great buy. The part of phillips ranch we live in suxs a$$. Other parts are decent, but because we're so close to pomona like diamond bar, we get the spill over of crime.

How do they know? I'm just wondering?

Did they run Dynos and see a loss in power?

Our part of Phillips Ranch, we keep getting people parking across the street and drinking bear and smoking out all the time. Every week or so we hear helicopters circling lookin for someone, and some of the people that live in the area we are in aren't the nicest. They drive all crazy on the roads and stuff.

There are parts that are really nice. Just the area we live in is towards the side.

The thing is with the larger wheels isnt just weight, its where it moves the weight too. If its pushed out further (like say in 19s) then its going to hurt performance

I say you need to choose. Looks or performance. Chances are you will have to make compremises.

it's not just about the weight of a wheel. A 19" wheel that weighs the same with tires as the 17" set up (assuming equal weight) will still get worse mpg I believe. It's something to do with rotational mass as well as the 19" wheel's weight moves farther out to the edges.

anyways. I can get anywhere from 350-375 miles for each fill-up 60/40 highway/freeway driving on stock 17's.

i threw the 19's back on and got about 300-325 range lol.

i got like 350-400 with stockies and spirited driving mostly city. put the 19s on and it fell to about 300-350 with the same driving habits.

funny thing is with the stockies on i think that i could have gotten up to 450 on the tank if i didn't like to hear vtech every chance i get.

I lost 7whp dyno-proven with my chrome 19's vs stock, then gained like 3whp over stock with 15lb/wheel lightweight 17's.

I also lost ~ 2mpg with the 19's overall.

Still 110% worth it when the car is clean.

Why do you need them any wider? You can def fit a 235 on a 7.5" wheel, and you cant go much wider than that on the CL-S anyways.

And Centerline makes good wheels, but get the chrome unless you like polishing them often.

I ran my 13.9 with a pair of 17x7 Centerlines

Here's what mine looked like

17x7 +42, if they were reg (non drag only) wheels I woulda gotten a wheel with a +48'ish offset.

You can see the luster diff between the fronts (polished) and the rears (chrome).
