Need some input about replacement OEM Tires

I am sure this has been discussed previously, however I would really appreciate hearing what the board members all reccomend for tires.

Takin a look at some reviews about the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 215/50-17 and they haven't been that great. So I am thinkin about another brand. Here is what I am lookin at now, anything I should know about these or maybe a brand/model that's not in this list?

TireRack - Page 1 of 2 Sorted by Price

Thanks in advance for all your help everyone, this is a great community and it shows!

I went with the Sumitomo HTR+. I've only had them on for about 2k, so I can't comment on durability, but overall, I think they are great. Much better grip than the Michi's, don't squeal like pigs at every light and ride smooth and quite. Tire Rack has them for like $89, which I think is well worth it. They are respectable in the snow considering they are a Z-rated "all season, ultra high performance" tire. Certainly on par or better than the stockers in the slop. They also provide some curb protection that the stocker's didn't...

You would make the info a lot more meaningful if you happened to mention what you're looking for in a replacement tire, and what you did not like about the Michelin's.. YMMV

Re: What I like and that what I DONT!

The Mich were DECENT tires, quite a bit of slip and looseness that comes usually with cheaper tires, however, I am not about to fork over 170/tire for that level of performance. I am at 30k miles on the ride and I think I can get that out of a better/cheaper performing tire. Agree?

what type of roads do you drive on on a daily basis? Are you looking for tread life, performance, value, summer, all-season, etc, etc...

I choose the Sumitomo HTR+ from comments like haus and lose_it, etc. I need all season tires (it is in fact snowing outside my window right now) and from what I've read on tirerack's customer reviews they work great.

I don't know where IE is but if you're in socal you'll probably want to get a three season or summer tire. If that's the case, you should consider the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 (on sale) for a inexpensive replacement.

I've also heard the Yoko ES100's were excellent but wears very fast.

Re: Driving Habits - Surfaces

I live an hour east of LA and it gets hot and nasty here (112F was the high for the year)...very little rain and when it does, its a mess due to the low rain fall here so all the oils and that come up.

Driving Style / Road Surfaces:

Typically more a street driver, the roads are in decent shape, but not that great, I love to jump on it from the lights, lots of ricers here that have taken a beating from biting off more than they can chew.... :o)

I want the best life for the money and perfomance. Hey, who says you can't have it all?? oh, and I don't want big phat chunky side walls, something that doesn't look like I bought them from WalMart!

The HTR+ is the all season version of the HTR. Not sure about the differences between the HTRZ and the II

I got the Sumitomo HTR+, but one main reason I got them is that they are great in the snow, which is very true. In your situation, snow is not an issue, I would go with something like the Nittos or Yokohama AVS ES100 or Dunlop SP Sport FM901

What about the Michelin Pilot Sport a/s? I just had Costco install 4 225/50/17s. There is a $60 off four tires sale on Jan 20 - Feb 2.

You might want to consider the Toyo Proxes T1-S tires that come in the same size as the OEM tires. No complaints here ... they are great tires IMHO.

Hmmm

If you are not worried about price and only want the best for your whip... Go with the Bridgestone Potenza SO3's.... I think I paid 171 a piece.... But I put the SO3's on 18 inch rims... When I need to replace the stock tires like you are doing, I might look into the Sumitomo...

For my replacements I'm going with the HTR+'s. I've heard and read nothing but great reviews about these tires. I live in Philly though. You prob don't need all season tires.
