Miro's Wheel Refinishing DIY

just started this project tonight, hopefully will be finished by sunday, still deciding on powder coating or painting it (properly), but i did find a powdercoater that will do it for 50$ per rim if its already stripped.

my tools:
supa poly strippa! (LePage Super Poly Strippa)
a spatchula
sand paper 80, 100, 200grit
rags
ipod bumpin that soulja boy tell em watch me yuhhhh

this is all i used for now, ill probably need more stuff but i'll update
tonight i just started stripping the paint to see what im in for, tomorrow im gonna take the wheels apart and get rid of all the paint. Some will say u can just scuff up existing paint buy i decided to take it all off. Ive decided to murdaaaa these out, no chrome anywhere duffman style (except im blacking out rivets too) . This took me about 4 hours (for 2 wheels almost fully stripped)

ok pics, will update tomorrow.

showin off some width 17X9 and 17X8

most of the paint off, took about 4 or 5 coats of supa strippa

Aircraft Remover. You can get it in the paint aisle at Auto Zone. Awesome stuff. Took off many coats of paint straight down to the metal on my old Civic.

well....i ran out of the paint stripper lol and me being a moron forgot that everythings closed today for easter soooo only 2 of the rims will get done today. after talking with some friends i decided to paint these myself, with shitloads of thin layers, and a good sandable primer.

what do u guys think i should do for tires, i was thinking 215/50/17 for the front and 225/50.17 for the rear. at first i wanted to go for the stretched look but im not low enough to pull it off

so i had a rough night last night lol...fuck you moet and cristal.

i woke up late today, only got one more wheel done, found some aircraft stripper at parts source. Anyways heres a tip for anyone doing this, you will have to put on a few coats of the stripper. the first coat will take off the clear cloat and u may think u didnt do anything, reapply the stripper and the actual colored paint will start coming off. At least thats how it went for me, theres a video on youtube of a guy stripping rotas and the paint seems to just come off, i dont know how that happened but that is NOT the case with my wheels.

anyways decided to take some pics of the fitment on the rears...scary

yep they were sandblasted, but it actually didnt work as well as i thought it would. I was in montreal all weekend for UFC so i didnt get to paint them, the next pics i put up will be the final product, so far they look great! I might be getting new rims tho lol.

What didn't work with the sandblasting?

I bet the UFC was sick!

What color are they getting painted...or are you doing powdercoating?

Over these rims now?

What happened?

are u a cop?! lol

well the sandblasting actually didnt take off the paint in some spots, so i had to go back to the stripper. Im still thinking to paint or powdercoat, i bought everything i need for paint but i dont know, i think they'll have better resale value if/when i decide to get rid of them. And im not overthem, i just dont know how they'll sit on my car since im not slammed, plus there might be some good rims i can get my hands on in a few days.

Probably not these ones...but I was looking at some others that I would.

Gunmetal if I did.

Flat black is sick on the right car.

3 piece wheels should be disassembled when being refinished. Once the wheels are painted, they might crack at the seams. Also, the rivets could have been kept chrome or silver for a little bit of pop or contrast. Also, on 3 piece wheels, the lip done in a gloss black and the face done in a satin or matte black is an awesome combo. Props for the effort, but the end result will make the 3-piece wheel look like a one piece.

yea ive seen the gloss black lip with flat black center and i liked it. Theres still so many ways i can go with these eventually ill choose one, but i want to do it correctly so taking them apart may have to happen, i figure it might be easier to paint that way too. Theres to many wheels wanting to look like 3 piece wheels out now a days, im going reverse lol

no i couldnt find a wrench for the bolts, ive put 4 layers of sandable primer on these, and i have 4 cans of duplicolour flat black wheel paint lol, these will be getting a bunch of nice even thin coats, if they end up chipping or whatever ill simply redo them. I'll most likely hold on to these for a while and just get another set of rims in a week or so, so i can switch it up lol.

the pictures i posted are just primer so far, its duplicolor sandable primer. and the paint i got is duplicolor wheel paint

as far as clear coat im not sure, duplicolor also makes a clear coat specifically for wheels but i dont really want mine to shine

You gotta put a clear coat on them or they'll just get jacked up.

They make clear coats that aren't shiny.

You need lots of coats to get that slick wet look.

But you need something on there I think.
