HELP! Rust on Wheels?

Hi Guys - please tell me there is nothing wrong!! Just got my new CL-S Aegean Blue w/Nav. and drove in the rain yesterday (huge storm around D.C. area and was on 495). Today I looked out at the car and saw rust on the inner wheels. Went out and it sure looks like rust to me!! What is the story??? It looked like some condensation on the piece below the door when I opened it but that may have been from getting out of the car yesterday in the rain.

But what is this rust??? I'm sure I'm missing something but someone please tell me this is normal-especially since the dealer is closed now and I'm freaked??!! Need help from my CL friends!!

Thanks, Rustito

no..that is imposible.because the alloy wheel are made from cast aluminum..i believe that will get rust..just use wheel cleaner to try to get rid of it..and have fun with your new cl..

Rust is iron oxide. Aluminum wheels CAN'T rust. Its probably coming from the rotors.

OK - this is totally dumb but...what are the rotors?? I am looking past the hub caps at the flat disks. Are these the rotors and do they rust?? The car is only 2 days off the dealer lot and driven 3 times - last time was in the rain. If I drive it will that clear it or is something wrong??

Rustito with rust on the brain!!

Yeah dude, those are the brake rotors and yes they will rust. The rust will come off once you apply the brakes a few times. Nothing to worry about, totally normal.

BTW, I've got a nice set of "hub caps" that I'll trade you for yours.

The rotors are indeed the metal disk you will see as you look past the aluminum wheels. The rust you see is no big deal, they rust in the factory on a humid day. It never has a chanve to penetrate, so don't sweat it. You will wear them out before they rust through. This is PERFECTLY NORMAL. Someone once tried to make them out of stainless, but, well, they didn't work so well. If it really bothers you, get the Brembo's
