Do both of our front wheels spin when VSA is off?

Blew out my driver's side front 18" Nitto 555, so i got a replacement tire and rim. The rest of the 3 555's have about half life on them, but the new one, obviously had more tread.

I'm contemplating burning the tread on the front left tire to kinda even out the tread since i'm under the assumption ONLY the front driver's side tire breaks loose with the VSA off. am i correct in assuming this? or do BOTH of the tires break loose? if that is the case, then i wont be burning the tread at all.

is this even a good way to go about evening out the tread? anything else i may want to do? any repercussions in having uneven tread on the front tires?

I would say yes. A LSD is what would prevent both wheels from slipping.

so does that mean i can drive hard for a few weeks with VSA off to somewhat even out the tread?

as far as i can remember, when i've peeled out, i put alot of tire mark on the pavement with the left tire versus very little if any with the right....

Maybe put the uneven tires in the rear and put the even tires on the front?

Never buy just one tire unless the others are fairly new. You should have bought two so that you could have matching tires.

I agree.
Instead of burning 50% of the tread off the new one, just toss the old one and get another new tire.

Jesus, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

So to "even out" the tread, you're going to put unnecessary stress and wear on your engine and drivetrain? Go back to Cars 101.

If you're that worried about it, put the new one on the back. Better yet, buy another new one and put both of them in the back (never put the new pair in the front).

I don't believe the VSA has anything to do with which wheels spin in the front, it cuts power to the wheels when it detects too much wheelspin, so I don't think that will help.
Anyway, always replace tires in pairs, it's the only way that works.

No, not either. ALWAYS put the new ones in the back. It doesn't matter if the car FWD, RWD or AWD. Always in the back.

put the new ones on the front if you like stopping in the rain

put the new ones on the back if you want to be sure the back end of the car does not overtake the front when you slide around a corner

yes, from my experience if I launch from a light in my 03 auto my passenger side blazes, but making a left turn I've had my drivers side blow smoke in my face so I dont know maybe whichever loses traction first

at the track tho its always passenger

When I talked with the tranny shop they told me some of our trannys, autos that is, have them and some don't. The rebuild on mine does have the LSD. Before this tranny I too would lite up the passenger side.

Most (if not all) FWD vehicles with an open diff send more power to the passenger side. In a straight line - the pass side tire will light up. If for some reason the pass tire has significantly more traction than the driver's side (like when making a left turn - shifting weight to the right), power is sent to the driver's side wheel.
