Anyone ever re-finish wheels?

I was wondering if anyone has ever stripped paint and clear coat off of aluminum rims and re-painted them? If so could you please let me know the best way to go about it. I am planning to have them media blasted and then prime, paint, and seal.

Anything I should know about before I tackel this project....?

My personal opinion is to have them powdercoated vs painted. I can't imagine, with all the road hazards out there, that a painted would survive.

Just an FYI, most OEM wheel's clear finish is actually a powdercoated finish.

Wheels America or something llike that seem to do this type of work. There work is warranty. I have had several wheels worked on and have been very satisfied with the results.

If you go the paint route instead of powdercoating...

I haven't used this myself, but DupliColor makes a paint 'specially for wheels.

Here's their how-to-do-it.
