alignment question
alignment question
i took my car to just tires to get an alignment after my drop with the tien ss. the drop is not drastic so it should have been a pretty straight foward thing. its like 1-1.5" drop in the front and1.5-2" drop in rear.
took the car for a drive and noticed the car is pulling to the right and the steering wheel vibrates more than normal at 60-65. i just came back from a re-visit to just tires and they said the steering wheel vibration is from unbalance wheels, so they balanced them, whatever no big deal.
heres the good part. tech told me the pulling is from the camber that is off in the rear. so i asked him what can be done with that? he told me that i would have to take it to a mechanic.
now, i'm no genious, but wtf is a mechanic going to do for my alignment issue that a wheel alignment shop can't??? he basically told me that i need to get the camber fixed and thay can't help me. correct me if i'm wrong, but camber has to do with alignment, right? furthermore, camber can be adjusted if it is not to severe, correct? btw, the print out says -1.1 degree on both sides. are they not suppose to deal with camber issue? somebody please enlighten me.

I had installed H&R sport springs on my Tl and went for alignment and after droping my car off for about 3 HRS and came back and they said that they couldn't do the alignment because i need a camber kit. Went to a different shop and the guy did the alignment just fine and never said anything about a camber kit so its possible that you might need a camber kit or maybe the shop dude is smoking some good stuff
Sounds like you need a camber kit, but I don't know what Just Tires is talking about needing a mechanic to help you out. I'd take it to another shop, sounds like they don't know what they're doing.

Camber seems to be very hit or miss when lowering the car. Some can be dropped 1-2 inches and not need any camber kit and be within spec, and others will be off significantly. From my understanding, our suspensions aren't capable of such a large adjustment of -1.1 degrees, so that's where a camber kit come into play.
so just tires is just a bunch of boneheads. so basically made me balance my tires for nothing because the car still vibrated from 60-65. took it back and after an hour of "testing" they said my tires are cupped which is causing the vibration. so they explained to me that my "cupped" tire is also making the car pull right. so i said if i fix the camber in the the back with camber kit and got four new tires and got the car re-aligned then my car would 1)stop pulling right 2)the shaking would stop. Bonehead said no gaurantees because your car is modified. i replied with "so you're telling me the only thing i can do is to put everything back to stock?" again with the "no gaurantees". i was about to deck the sob.
conclusion: i am just gonna roll with this for now and order the camber kit. who knew lowering your car would be this frustrating. at anyrate still really happy with the pefromance of the tiens and the ride quality.
