After installing Function and Form Type 1 rear clunks

I have a set of function and form coilovers type 1, Ever since I installed them I've been getting a clunk sound from the rear. Any ideas what it could be? I also changed the sway bar endlinks to the moog endlinks. Not sure if it is the actual coilover or one of the bushing/arm in the rear. I might have also tighten the rear coilover preload slightly (maybe 1 or 2 turns), but I'm going to check to make sure it back in spec. Any idea/inputs? Thanks in advance.

Did you put the rubber isolator on the springs? The keep them quiet from rubbing each other when compressed.

No I didn't. I've heard people using teflon tape and wrapping it around the two ends of the spring. Is this what your talking about?

when you push down the rear with your hand, what kind of noise does it make? if it sounds like a loose bolt moving up and down the threads, i would try taking out the rear seats and check if your top hats are bolted tight

when I push down with my hands, there is no sound. I took off the wheel and checked to see if the coilover was loose but it was tight. I notice my swap bar endlinks are close to the coilover not sure if it hits while driving over a bump. I ll take some pics possibly tomorrow or in a couple of days. Thanks guys for the help.

i have the same noise coming from the rear, i get a clunk noise when i go over a small bump that I've never heard till the other day. sounds like if the top hat is loose but i press down on the car there is no noise. I'm going to remove the rear seat and take a look at it to make sure there is no loose bolts and also will remove the rear shock to make sure its not leaking.

I actually thought it was the top hat also. My shock was leaking. I was luckily still under warranty and FF2 replaced it for me free. Just had to pay a deposit which was refunded back to me after I sent the bad shock in and 10$ for shipping the old shock back. Are you still under warranty? I found that my endlinks had nothing to do with me clunk noise.

I would check the top bolts that bolt the coilover to the car, the bolt that connect the top hat to the shock rod, make sure all lock rings are tight and that the preload is in spec. keep me updated

Question here, when I brake really hard to the point where the front end lowers to the ground (stock everything under the car, no lowering/etc) or take a turn, there is a creaking/groaning that sounds like it comes from the front passenger side. Does this mean that my suspension/ other workings in that area around the area are shot?

I only really notice this when I start driving after the car sits for 18 or 20 hours and again when I brake to the point where ABS engages or shortly before that (70KM/h - 0).

Don't really know all that much about the steering/suspension/mechanical parts of cars so don't scream too loud

I have the same dam problem and the noise is like CHINESE TORTURE...Its driving me completely INSANE! Its a metal clunking loose sound coming from the rear driver side. Everyone is advising me to check the stabilizer end links, end links and sway bar mounts... I really don't think its any of them since I SWEAR we checked and double checked all the above...Matter of fact, I would LOVE for it to be one of these bolts loose rather then needing a entire new coil over...

Check for leaks in the piston rod that goes into the shock body. There is a small rubber ring gasket. That was my problem. Also check to see if the endlink still has grease inside.

FWIW, I too recently installed new coilovers and also experienced a clunking type sound in rear and learned today the rubber isolator Fuzzy mentioned was worn and not working properly, causing the spring to miss hitting the isolator and therefore causing the metal clicking type sound I heard over bumps. New isolator is $20 and should be looked at for anyone having a similar issue. Thanks Fuzzy.

Check around to ensure the isolator you need fits your specific coils, but here's a picture example of what they look like:

The shop is finishing mine this morning. When I pick it up, I'll ask about the exact source or part # they used. It wasn't available locally so they ordered it yesterday.

Youll need the diameter of your spring first. You can get them at Summit Racing or JC Whitney.

I was advised to go straight to the manufacturer of your coils to ensure exact fitment. I tried the 3rd party isolator route (limited options locally, wanted something same day) and it wasn't a perfect fit so I contacted the manufacturer of my coils (AMR) and he sent me a set of 4 for $20. I had to wait a few days, but got exactly wht I needed.
