235/40/18 +45 Offset

I've run the tirecalc on the

235/40/18 vs stock 215/50/17 on my 03 CL-6S

it's a .24% increase in diameter - or 60mph on stock rims = 60.1mph on these.

On the 225 tires though (because of the angle I guess) it changes to a .48% increase.

Anyone running 235/40/18 setup that can speak to the clearance of turning?

I'm stock height, but I'd like to drop it 1.5 / 2 inches with some springs.

The rims I'm looking at are +45 offset. Would I need to be more like +50 ? I don't want cone shaped rims.... damn FWD....

+48 or higher for 8" wide rims. You may get away with +45 if the rims are 7.5" wide

These are what I was considering.

I would probably spray them anthracite to match the CL - though the black contrast might look good - I dunno.

They're 7.5 wide. I think the 235s should improve traction a bit, maybe help the LSD work a little harder too - but I don't want to be cutting holes in my fenders or splash guards either. I DESPISE when the kiddies cram mis-sized wheels on otherwise clean cars....

I gotta admit, having owned both - the CL is a COMPLETELY different car with the 6 Manual. It should have been given a different name.

With a 2 inch drop and these wheel dimensions - would you think I'd need a good camber adjustment as well?

Camber is related to the drop not the rims. Anything more then 1.5, it's a good bet you'd need a camber kit. But each car is a little different.

Agreed - I just don't want to be rubbing the inside edges off the tires in 2000 miles...lol. If I were to get +45 offset rims with 145 tires - might not be a big deal to drop it 2 inches.....235s on the other hand.....

You look at improperly adjusted cars from the back and see \----/ or /----\ instead of a nice |-----|

What kind of Camber setup did you use after doing this?

Love the S2K....I've got one in the garage next to my CL...

I have been on 235/40/18 tire on a 7.5" et 45 rim for 3 years now. I do have a tein ss drop that is 1.5 -2 finger gap all the way around. I do love to corner like a maniac so I have -1.2 degree camber in front and -.7 in the rear. Otherwise you should have no worries mate.
