2 sets of tires down within 15k

Have had balancing aligment and all. First pair (stock) i forgot to rotate and the fronts were shot at 8800 miles, so when i went to rotate the guys said they were to low down and worn. So I go and replace them now with continental contiextreme contacts, get it aligned and balanced, and there is even treadware. I rotated at 2,000 miles and then at another 2,000 miles and im at 5,000 miles now. I cant believe it but I can probably only get another 3-4k out of the fronts and I wont be able to rotate to the backs. So basically I cant find a tire that sticks and lasts!

WHAT TIRE CAN PERFORM BETTER THAN STOCK AND WILL GIVE ME EXCELLENT TREADWARE. $500 every 8 months to a year is killer to a 17 year old paying for gas, tires, and car maintenance.

This is abnormal wear.

1) Something is quite wrong with your suspension set up (alignment/shocks/springs/wheels/balance...).
Out of spec suspension set ups will wear tires.

or

2) You go WOT at every green light, burn out every chance you get, chirp every gear shift, and try to take every turn at 60MPH.
Abusive driving will wear tires.

I researched the ContiExtreme and I got mixed reviews (TireRack.com). Seems like some people get very low mileage.

yea, i dont have much left, they actually arent that great of tires, not much better than stock except wet grip...

my biggest complaints with them are

wind/road noise
bumpy drive and a lot of feedback in the steering wheel
sidewall flexes like a bitch

Yo definatly check ur tyre pressure. If u plus sized on ur tyres and have a side wall of 45 or lower u need to be running at 40-45 psi. If u are at the stock side wall u need to be running at 30-35 psi.

The stock rubber is hard as hell and should’ve lasted 30-40K or more.
If you burned through STOCK rubber in 15K miles I’d hate to see how fast you’d go through a softer performance tire.

Lighten up on the foot and take it easier around corners if you can’t afford the price of admission.

Maybe you should get a set of 120,000-Mile Jetson’s

I rotate tires every oil change (5k miles) on all my vehicles, tires balanced on a hunter 9700. I have 36k on my truck tires and they have at least another 20k left in them, 20k on my CLS tires and they have at least 30k or more left in them, 30k on my Miata tires and they have at least 30k left in them.

I'd say your car needs a thorough check out and you need to lighten up. How many tickets do you have. Vtecing 8-10 times a day has to have had an impact on the points.

I also have the Contiextreme contact, I can say that I do push the car around turns, and I do notice that the fronts are wearing out, not dramatically but defitnitly notice the wear, time to rotate!!

I've got 61k on the stock tires and I occassionally hammer the on/offramps. There is either something wrong or you are driving much harder than you think.

Im driving the exact way I told you, sometimes hard cornering a lot of fast acceleration

and i havent got any tickets, I dont do really too many high speed accelerations, although i went against my friends g35 to about 110.

Something may be wrong with the car, but what? Everything feels okay.

Did you not have your suspension checked out after you wore through the stock tires in under 10K miles? Did you not realize that this is not 'normal' wear for these tires?

If you have not, I'd recommend taking the car to the dealer and having them answer why you are wearing tires so fast. The answer will be one of the two options that I listed earlier in this thread.

The CL is so nose-heavy that throwing it around corners is actually HARDER on tires then doing burnouts.
At least that’s what they tell me.

I don't see how, cause you aren't losing the tread you lose during a burnout while cornering.

It’s a lot of force on the tire to hold the road and you’re essentially “scrubbing” the rubber away if you’re sliding sideways a bit.

I agree with the masses. There has to be something wrong with the suspension setup to wear tires that fast. I drive alot harder then you do, & my Toyos lasted 23K miles. My stocks had 90% tread at 5K miles when I sold them. Get the car checked out. Also how is the wear on the tire? Is it uniform, or is one side more wore then the other? Is the suspension stock?

stock suspension, I drive it pretty hard, but still...10k miles on a set of tires shouldnt be happening. I dont drive it hard enough to cause it. The wear is pretty much uniform, they said just a tad bit of feathering, but not anything close to being significant. I keep the 215/50/17 conti's at 32psi.

Now how do I go about getting the dealer to see if there is anything wrong with the car or suspension without getting a 15k service. They wanted $200 for a 15k service, and im at 15,700 and was planning on waiting to the big 30k checkup.

How can I get my dealer to give me a small charge just to check to see if my suspension is okay.

Simple instructions on how to get dealer to check out car:

You may have to pay the shop rates for a check of the car if nothing is found wrong. Such is life. You took on the responsibility of driving a car, now you (may) have to pay for it.

Might be a minor point but he's in FLA. and tires do wear more down there because of the heat

Nothing to do with that. I got over 20K miles out of my Toyos. I live in the same part of FL.

The only standard (215/50R17) tires that I have been able to identify with any mileage warranty is the Dunlop SP Sport A2. They come with a 50k mile warranty and are available at Sam's Club for $117 each (+ all the extra stuff).

But, like the others said.....sounds like your problem is something more than tires. You need to get that checked out.
