Weird Electrical Problem

So every time I accelerate from a starting position my power cuts out and turns off everything in my car. My stereo, navigation, head lights all cut off for a second. It also happens when I go over bumps. I cleaned the negative terminal off with some sand paper and reconnected and tried again, and it's still happening. Could this be a sign of my battery going dead? or even worse alternator?? I haven't replaced the battery since I first bought the car almost 6 years ago. I can still drive the car around but it's annoying for my music and stuff going out every time I accelerate hard in the lower gears or go over a bump. Thanks for any opinions.

Did you try cleaning the positive terminal? Check for corrosion on the alternator terminal as well. Also check the power wires between the battery and the alternator.

accelerate hard and bumps you have the same problem??? sounds like something is moving around under the hood. Loose ground wire could cause tuns of electrical problems, on any car for that matter.

I'd be looking there or at the alt.

Been to busy to worry about it but I have time now. I'm not very familiar with auto electrical type stuff, could anyone tell me how to find the ground wires. Are there any in the rear because my back bumper was a little loose under the wheel well on the drivers side. I'm gonna go fiddle around now and try cleaning the positive terminal.
