Vibration under acceleration
Vibration under acceleration
Ok, so last week my right drive shaft broke (CV shaft). It seems that the balance weight that was on it was spinning freely on the shaft (check this if you have a CL) and it wore through the shaft and consequently the shaft broke. During rush hour. On the longest street in the world. At a busy intersection. Downtown Toronto. GOOOOOD TIMES!!!
I digress.....
I got the shaft replace. No weight on the new shafts apparently. Now though, under acceleration, there's a ton of vibration. No vibration during normal cruising.
It's an '01 Type S. About 110,000 miles.
Here's what we checked:
Tires. Brand new.
Rims. Not bent.
Wheel seating. Perfect. (re and re'd all four wheels)
Drive shaft installation. No leaks from tranny, and all looks good.
Front end feels tight, no excessive play when the car is up on a hoist.
So, I'm stumped.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

KalTire stated that the vibration in my case was possibly (though unlikely) a case of the front driver side wheel being out of alignment since it was in an accident a while back and apparently "the wheel cant be adjusted due to frame damage". They went on to say that the wheels were "cupping" and that was causing the vibration and proceeded to try to sell me tires...
I doubt that KalTire was really being honest with me in their "explanation" of what was going on since the frame damaged wheel would vibrate at all times if it was THAT bad and the cupping wheels would probably vibrate all the time as well, I have a hard time trusting KalTire ever since they broke parts on both my cars when I took them there and tried to make me pay for their screwups. I also have a hard time believing that brand new Michelins have ~8,000KM left on them, and that the brand new front brake pads and rotors need replacing...

Check for play in the intermediate shaft as well.
And that weight probably wasnt spinning. Water and dirt got between it and the shaft and formed rust. Myself and a few others have had the pleasure of dealing with that little issue.

I'm going to get the axle replaced AND check for playin the intermediate shaft. BUT, the vibration only started AFTER I replaced the axle. It wasn't there before, so I have a hard time believing that it's the intermediate.
Thanks for all the input guys!!
