Ticking Noise

Does ne 1 elses car make a really lod ticking noise while at idle from underneath the car? Can't hear it too bad from inside the car, but outside it sounds like it is going to blow up! It's at the Acura dealer now, and I told him about it, he said he would look at it. I was just wondering if ne 1 else had the same problem?

I get a faint ticking sound that can be heard from the drivers side, sounds like it is right behind the left rear tire...

That is the side that it is most noticeable. But it isn't that loud, huh?

Ok. I just picked up my car from Acura. They said that they think that it is the injectors. They can get louder at some points than other times. Oh well. I guess we just have to live with it?

I have that same noise. I can really hear it when I'm next to a wall, like a drive thru window. When I put it in netural the ticking goes away. Sounds kind of like the tourqe converter.

Without actually having the car right here so I can listen to it I would be hard pressed to guess what the noise could be.Badazz you are in Totowa NJ who do you service your car with?Jens

I believe it was in your shop. I had it in Park Ave Acura in Maywood. That's what they said (the injectors). I dunno.

Next time you go there, demand Jens, you lucky bastard you live in the area ... bring it in, have Jens look at it, and lets figure out what the hell this sound is.

Just as an FYI, I, too hear the same ticking noise at idle. Bear in mind that its the same ticking noise that I heard on my Honda Accord. I'm not sure but I think I recalled I was once told that it was the way the honda engines save gas while in idle.. at least the ticking noise is a side effect of it. ...thats what I wast old way back when ...

Noises coming from a car are what we call subject to interpretation.Whenever any of you have a specific noise concern it is your best bet to ask if a technician can go and have a listen to the car with you present. This assures that both you and the technician heard the same noise and are on the same page in terms of determining what the noise is and if it is normal or requires attention. All too often a customer will have a specific noise concern and by the time the technician get's the car and starts looking for a noise no one will really know exactly what it is we are looking for. This is kind of the same thing that happens when you play that old children's game "telephone".What starts out as one thing by the time it makes the rounds becomes something else.So whenever possible when you know you have this sort of concern with your vehicle allow for some time at the dealer so that we can work together to set things right.Jens

I bought my CLS this morning, fully aware of most of it's quirks having been on this board for a few months- except for one.

I'm hearing this soft rapid iteration ticking that comes and goes. It's most noticeable in idle. From a search, it seems that a lot of CLs are subject to this. Has anyone found any definite info about this?

I noticed a ticking from under my hood on startup yesterday! It reminds me of the belt noise on my old car!

I went and searched the TL boards, and it seems they too have this soft "ticking" noise in their cars- particularly in idle.

Some think it's the tensioners, brake boost, or exhaust. So... no definite culprit. Like Jens said, it could be a different sounds people are hearing. But from the most part, it seems like the same soft rapid ticking I hear, particularly in idle.

I'm gonna try and see if I can replicate this sound on demand, so I can get it looked (er, listened to) at the dealer.

Long shot on old thread but any new Input?

So the ticking is more prevalent in idle, never heard while driving . Definitely sounds like from brake booster, did recently delete a lot on exhaust and switch to cold air intake. AND tried to use seafoam in gas tank, small amount as previous owner probably didn't. Anyone know what the ticking is or ideas?

I think the most common ticking from these cars comes from the evap canister at the back by the drivers wheel. Usually the culprit is the purge valve/solenoid. Check into it there are plenty of forums here about it. Cheers

My guess is if the ticking sound is around the brake booster, then it is the Purge Control Solenoid Valve assembly.

Purge valve ticks on the drivers side near the firewall. Also this sound can be coming from the catalytic converter, possibly even just the heat shield connected to it. Many CL's have this ticking noise everyone describes. I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless if you experience loss of power, poor gas mileage, grinding noise, etc...
