stalling while driving
I have a CL that the previous owner made modification to the engine ( this was discovered at a repair shop), ever since I put in a new transmission last summer, the car stalls in traffic, even on the freeway and sometime will not start right away. when staffled or not starting, if I wait exactly two minutes, it will start. This happens as much as six times a day but then will not happen again for a week or two.
The computer at the repair shop does not show a problem and they do not know what is causing this.
I am not a car person, and would love to hear if anyone has had the same issue.
Thanks

Hey i got a 99tl and the exact same thing was happening to me. It was my ignition switch that was acting up. I got it fixed about 3 weeks ago and have not had any stalling problems since.
well, i took it to the dealer who said it was the ignition switch and replaced it for $560.00. I picked up the car yesterday, and it stalled three times this morning driving to work. I just dropped it back off at the dealer. Any other ideas ???
wow that is expensive. i only paid $280. do you have another honda/acura key inside the car? it could be causing interference via the immobilizer chip. also mention the
Idle Air Control Valve. i've read on here that it can sometimes get clogged and cause stalling issues.

did you have problems with starting it in winter? does it start in the morning right away and stalls when warmed up? when you stall and cant stat your car afterwards try cycling your egnition key to position 2 for 3 seconds and off - about 4 times and than start. iif that helps you have a weak fuel pump or modified injectors that cant be handled by stock pump.
cold fuel pump presurizes much better thats why in winter or in the morning problems seem to not exist. cyclig key will help built up pressure - pump starts for 3-4 seconds before you start engine. good luck

Dude, I've been having the same problem for months now. I've replaced the spark plugs, fuel injectors, and battery but the damn thing still stalls, and this was all done at the dealership which covered the costs for the injectors only before my warrenty expired. Now that I'm on my own now, I'm bringing it to my mechanic and hopefully he may be able to help me with this problem or else I'm gonna dump it for something else. I may just give in to finding a 6 speed though, lol. Sorry for the rant.
Get your money back.... The ignition switch on the CL was recalled by honda because the switch wore out and caused the car to stall while driving. The dealer should replace it for free. Read this website.

there are two recalls for the car. the ignition switch is the second one. click on get details and it explains the problem. i'm taking my cl in tomorrow to get it fixed.

Hi Everyone, I have the same problem with my car!!!
My car suddenly stalls on the high way today at high speed!!! It almost have caused a file-up accident , Please help!!! I really like this Acura Cl, but this problem is too scary to continue to drive this car!!!
I have been driving this 1998 Cl 3.0 for the last years. When I bought this car, the check engine light was on. But the private seller who had the car for many years told me that it was a cat converter problem and assured me not to worry about it. For the last 2 years, I did not have have a single problem with this car till recently.
It all happened about 1 month ago. While driving on a highway going 60 mile/hr, the car stalls suddenly!!! The engine shuts itself!!!The green light on the right of the dash came on as if I have just put the key in ignition but didn't turn it yet.
Everything like radio, heat, and lights were on and working perfectly. The experience was really scary!!! The car start again right after I pulled it over parked it and restarted it.
I searched this forum and learned that the ignition switch was a recall. Then I took the car to a local Acura Dealer. They were supposedly have changed the ignition switch and other things and fixed the recall problem on this model. It was free.
But after having the car back for a week, the car stalls again. This time it was on a local street. I then pulled over, drove it back to the dealer. They checked the check engine light code and quoted me $1700 for replacing the ERG value and Cat converter. I told them I will ask a local mechanic before coming back to them. They charged $130 for reading the Check engine light codes.
I bought a new ERG value for $90 and a Cat converter for $100 online and have a mechanic put them in for $200. The check engine light was off for about 1 day and back on again the next day!!! But I thought the problem was probably fixed.
Today, the car stalled again on a high way. There was no place to pull over this time. The folks behind me almost hit me!!! I got stuck at a curve and it was hard for the drivers behind me to see me. I put the car in park, turned the ignition switch. But it would not turn on. Tried again and again, but the engine would not stay on. It was really really scary; I really freaked out...keep looking at the rear view mirror and prayed that the other driver s would see me and stop on time...I kept turning the key , then after about 20 tries. The engine was finally on and stayed on. I drove the car home with fear.
Please tell me what to do...The car now has 132k miles. When I got it, it was only 87k. It drives perfectly like a new car except this scary scary persisting problem.
Please advice what to do? Should I go back to the dealer? How can I be sure they have fixed the recall items? Should I take it to another mechanics? Please help!!!
