I just got my first speeding ticket in Memphis, TN, for going 41 in a 35. The road I was on, Summer Ave, had a speed limit of 40 and then all of a sudden it changes to 35. The cop was hiding on the alley to the right shortly after it turns to 35.

He pulled me over and all that, and he handed me the ticket and said I can either go to the location at the back of the ticket or pay it online. I asked him how much it would be and he said $32. If I want it off my record, I can go to court and pay a little higher, around $61 bucks.

My question is...why do I have to pay to go to court? Isn't going to court appealing it? Also...do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do? I really don't want my insurance doubling for 6mph over, and I've never gotten a ticket, esp not out of state (i'm in Memphis for college).

If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it, preferably someone from TN.
