question

I'M new to this forum and have a question for you guys
I am going to buy a 2001 cl-s for $10k from my sons friend it has just over 50000
miles on the motor and about 8000 on a new transmission (Recall) he is the original owner.
Ok here is my question what do I look for in the way of problems?
or how can I tell if he has been rough on it?
From what I can see the car is in immaculate condition.

Thanks all
REXX

And FYI, the tranny is covered under warranty until 100K. So you have some time after you buy the car. $10K for that car with only 50K seems low. Anything else wrong with the car? Did you do a Carfax?

Here are the details for your parents:

2001 Acura CL type-S, two door coupe
Black exterior, beige leather interior
No navigation, has rear spoiler
two cosmetic paint scraps at each corner of the front bumper
No mechanical problems that I'm aware of.
48176 miles

The vehicle is due for a 45K service. According to the owner's manual, it's a fluid change just like the 30K service below. The timing belt needs to be changed at 105K miles or at 60K miles if you drive regularly at >110F or -20F which we did not.

Recent repair history (all repairs were done at the Acura dealer)
43800 transmission replacement (covered under recall campaign) and oil change
41000 4 new tires
42300 oil change, replaced battery (F/R brakes 70/80%)
39300 oil change
37500 oil change
35500 oil change
28900 30K service: transmission, coolant, oil, brake fluid flush and air filter

I've attached the Edmunds TMV as a price reference.

How about I complete the 45K service at the dealer and sell it for $11,750? Alternatively, your parents can buy it as-is for $11,250.

We'll be in Vancouver, BC until next Friday, Aug 25th. We may ignore the cell phone if it rings since it's about a 1.50/minute in roaming and long distance.

Let me know if your parents find this reasonable or if they want to negotiate (I won't be offended). We can also arrange a test drive after we return from vacation.
