Question Please help...."Brake switch"

I have a problem...I can't get my car out of park shift. I had to use the emergency push lever to get into reverse and drive. I called the dealership and was told it might be the brake switch. I am wondering if anyone else had this problem. I have a 01 CLS. I would like to know if it is possible to work on this myself or would need a certified tech to get the job done. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've been having the same problem as well. I've found a certain technique to get the pedal positioned correctly to move from "Park". What is the cumulative affect of not having this issue fixed?
