Parking Brake Adjustment
Parking Brake Adjustment
I’ve been noticing the last little while my parking brake hasn’t been engaging that strongly. I’m looking for some insight on how to adjust (tightening in my case) the parking brake. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The MT is there, I'm not sure if the auto is. I know the auto is adjusted at the rear wheels as well for a major adjustment. Minor adjustment is a screw at the top the e brake pedal.

How to Adjust the Parking Brake on your RL
I just adjusted the parking brake on my 1996 Acura RL with automatic transmission. The Adjustment is found under the console but you do not have to remove it to access it. It is very simple in fact, you just have to pop up the air conditioning vent that is at the base of your console in the rear (it is for the back passengers by their feet) the plastic grill pops off and the small pertruding piece pops up with a screwdriver or something to pop the body clips up. Then with a 12mm deep socket you can tighten the bolt which will tighten your Parking brake, or loosen the bolt which will losen your parking brake. Should only take about ten minutes all together. GOOD LUCK!

Ok Thread, Here we go. I must start from the beginning. About 2 months ago, I purchased a 2004 Acura RL. About 2 days after purchase, I was driving to work and when I reached about 50 - 60 mph, I started to here a hum coming from the rear of the car. (Pretty much like the sound when you need a new hub). When I took it to the shop to have it diagnosed, I witnessed that the driver's rear wheel was very hard to turn. Passenger rear wheel spun freely. So here were thinking its the wheel hub. After the caliper was removed, the wheel spun freely and we then noticed that the caliper was seized, rusty, pins dried out, etc. All the signs of a seized caliper. Being that the car has 115,000 miles, and I had to change the rotor caliper and pads, i decided to swap out the hub also. Now here's where I'm stumped. When I put on the new rotor the rotor seems to be rubbing against the parking brake shoes before I tighten the 2 bolts that hold the rotor to the hub. When I tighten down the 2 bolts that holds the rotor to the hub, i can't spin the wheel at all. So I pulled the rotor off and the hub spins ever so sweet. I then put the new rotor back on and when i spin it, its rubbing (not generously either) against the parking brake shoes. When I lock the 2 bolts down, i can't spin at all. But when I put back on the old rotor, it spins fine with just slight rubbing against shoes. When I lock down the 2 screws, The old rotor spins with a slight rubbing against the shoes. I put back on the new rotor, tightened the 2 screws and turned the adjusting star wheel all the way towards the ground until it wouldn't turn anymore and the rotor would still rub and stick. Someone, please help me!!!! And yes, the new rotor is the correct one for the car.
