Odd electrical problem

This is sort of a repost in that I posted it in Problems and Fixes and then realized that maybe that sub-forum is where threads get moved there after they get solved. So I am posting it here. If necessary feel free to kill this thread. Anyhow, here was the post:

Hi guys, long time no post but I had to come back "home" to ask the experts. I have been having some issues with my CL-S lately that has be a bit concerned. I did a search for similar issues and didn't find anything but it is all about the search words so I appologize if this is a well discussed issue. The symptoms (manifesting at the same time but possibly unrelated) are as follows:

Steering wheel audio controls seem to work sometimes but not others. When they don't work it is like they are trading jobs...the 'volume increase' skips tracks, the 'track select' button increases volume...you get the idea. Other times they work fine.

The real weird one is that sometimes when I "get on it" the interior dome light blinks. Not a constant problem and it is one of those things that when I have other people in the car and it happens I tell them to watch for it and it doesn't happen. WTF? I promise I am not crazy!

If it helps to diagnose the issue, the only other issues I've had in the last year or two is that the passenger heated seat doesn't work anymore. I am guilty of not checking that fuse but the issue described above is recent and the heated seat issue isn't. I also dropped the tranny about 1.5 yrs ago. Again, this problem is recent compared to that.

Any thoughts?

fix

Well don't know about the CL, but I work at honda and a common problem is that the audio control on the steering problem. Is a bearing under you steering wheel that binds up. Just take off your steering wheel and put small indents in bearing. Problem fix.

Dome light check your door switch.

All these issues aren't tied together. Check your heater switch common problem also. Switch a working one like the other switch and see if it works.

for me, everything electrical would shut off once in awhile when driving. it was kind of scary at first until i figured out the problem. the + connecter to the battery had dried battery fluid all over it, so i just simply took it off, sanded it with a sand paper made for metal and slipped it back in. and everything was fine. thats just a shot, doesn't hurt to try it.

I figured that I would follow up on this since I haven't been to the forum in a while and every bit of info helps.

The problems were pretty much correctly diagnosed by Nigaphan. The audio controls: it was a problem with a grounding wire in the steering column. The dome light was the door switch. It was fixed and has since caused the same problem. I think it is because of an accident I had a few years back, the door and rear panel are off by a couple millimeters so it is really easy for it to look "open" to the switch. some black masking tape fixed the problem but it looks like crAp if you are looking for it. I still haven't fixed the passenger heated seat. I hardly ever have a passenger so it isn't a priority. I hope that helps.
