Red face Not a problem, but WA state folk could help!

I live in Canada, specifically in BC.

The five Acura dealerships within 80km of me (on the Canada side) want upwards of $200 to provide, cut and program a single key for my car, now I'm no genius, but it seems like severe highway robbery to me...

Does anyone in Washington state, from the Seattle area and upwards towards the border know of a dealership that won't steal an arm and a leg from me to cut and program a key?

I figure that if I am getting my gas (40c/L discount ) and picking up parts in Bellingham/ Blaine, I might as well save some money for an old immobilizer key too...

Have you checked a Honda dealer? You can order a key online (or provide them with the part number and they should be able to order it). They have the same system that Acura uses to program the key.

The problem is that in my area, Honda and Acura stealerships commit highway robbery on a regular basis...

I checked with Honda before opening this thread and was given the same ridiculous price as Acura.

Thats insane. They usually charge around $80 here to reprogram and cut the key.

Do they have the ability to cut a "master key" - the non valet one?

Sorry for the late reply... Yes they can program it (or atleast they did mine...) but I guess it depends if you have the master key? My key that came with my car is non Acura and they used it to cut and program the new one and it works for everything so I would say yes they can program the master key

Umm I'm not sure... I don't know how they're are different... I would assume they are slightly different keys...??? So you could get the valet key copied but you could only use it for what you use your key for now...

I think that only the door and ignition are electronic so I would think the glove compartments, trunk pass through, and console are all just slightly different from the ignition key?

I believe the valet key is missing a few cuts.

I know for a fact that Acura/Honda valet keys are missing a few cuts (compared mom's 08 civic master and valet key) as a way to stop the valet/overly-curious-friend-that's-borrowing-your-car from rummaging in the trunk, glove box or rear pass through.

I can also confirm that only the master key can actually lock/unlock the glove box and rear pass through and that the valet key can be used to drive the car for long distances...

Can any old place cut me a master key or do I need to go to an Acura/Honda dealership?

I believe any place can cut the master key as long as you have the master key for them to copy.
