New Rims caused Steering Problems?
New Rims caused Steering Problems?
I've been lurking here for a while and finaly decided to post. Here is the situation:
I took my car in for a new tranny, got it back put on my new Rims (19" Foose) took my sun to game and the "new" tranny starting slipping. Took it back to Acura had a new tranny put in. When I got the car back the alignment was way off and the steering was all over the place. Acura says they didn't mess with the alignment (BS) and it is the new rims fault. I have had the car aligned twice and rotated the tires every which way. The car is a little better since the alignment, as it doesn't pull now, but it is VERY susceptible to any road conditions. If there is uneven payment is trys to rip the steering wheel out of my hand, and I am constantly correcting on the freeway. If I let go of the wheel you can watch it shimmie going down the road. Can the new rims and tires really cause that? If so is there any way to correct it. I figured if it was toed in a little that it might help. I told the guys at the shop for the second alignment what was going on and asked them see if they could fix it, but all the did was put it back to factory specs and said they didn't see anything wrong. (My right rear was out by like .1 and they adjusted it.)
The problem is I sold my stock rims while the car was in the shop the second time, so now I have no way to verify if the rims and tires are really causing the problem.
I will have to check on the brand of tires.
I did a search and didn't really find anything pertaining to this problem.

Swap the rims front to back. If normal driving returns it's the rims or tires on the front. If it stays it's something with the car, or the type of tires. What size are the tires?
