Low beam headlight bulb

Hi,

Does anyone know how to change the low beam headlight bulb on a 2001 CL?
I have shown it to a number of friends who know a thing or two about cars. No luck.

Are you sure it's the bulb?

Check your fuse first. I though my bulb was out, but I was blowing fuses. Turned out to be the HID inverter unit.... which was not good news since they cost around $400 and no one makes them but Acura.

Check your fuse first. If it's blown, see if it blows a new one. If you are already positive it's a bad bulb, then I guess the above info is useless, and I can't help you with how to change it out.

Bad bulb and/or inverter...

There must be something in the water because my right low beam just went out on my '02 CL-S last week...

The bulb starts off very dim and builds intensity until it goes back out.... flickering...

I went to the dealer to get the bad news. Apparently, on the CL the inverter and igniter are all one unit and it costs $400 + around $200 for install. The bulb is also around $125, but they won't know if the bulb is bad until they replace the inverter/igniter.

They tried a new bulb, but it just flickered like the old one...

I didn't have it done yet because I wanted to try here first... does anyone know if there are any cheaper sources online. I know there are a few Acura dealers who sell parts a little cheaper on the Internet. Any suggestions?

Am I better off to replace both bulbs with aftermarket HID..? Is it cheaper..?

Also, can the work be done at a Honda dealer? The Acura dealer here is an hour away and they're probably more expensive that the local Honda dealer anyway.

Thanks in advance...

Honda can do it...

I had mine replaced at the Honda dealer near my work. I was told by the Acura dealer to tell them it was sounding like a bad inverter so to test that first so they're not chasing ghosts looking for the problem. I bought the inverter from Acura directly and had Honda go pick it up.

You can get it online for $320 here:

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...1=&inputstate=

I couldn't wait because I needed to drive at night, so I sucked it up. It hurts, I know.

As for replacing the HIDs with aftermarket, someone else will need to field that but (I think) I've read here that that can cause greater failure in the HID units. I may be pulling that info out of my a$$ though...

I made the mistake of buying bulbs (set of two 8000k HIDs) before I realized it was the inverter, so I have a set if you need them. Because my bulb wasn't bad, I stuck to the originals.

Thanks

Thanks for the info everyone, it looks as if I am just going to have the dealership do the work.
