A sentimental item (engraved keychain) flipped behind one of the doors that opens to reveal the two cupholders on the center console of my 2002 CL-S. Is there an easy way to access the area beneath the cupholders?

Should just be able to take the cup holder out. Not sure if thats what you're talking about but it just "POPS" right out exposing the area underneath it.

 

Take everything out of the center console and lift up on the felt lining. There are two screws, take them out. Then the two trim pieces that run along the center console need to be removed, just lift up on them, they'll pop out. There are two more screws near the shift gate that need to be removed, and then the console will be able to be moved back and out of the way. The cigarette light plug wire is connected underneath, so you can unclip it if you need to fully remove the console.
