Red face Has anyone here replaced their windshield?

What started as an annoying little rockchip has finally become a long streak across the middle of my windshield. i was just wondering if anyone has used glass from an Accord coupe or if you have used a CL-P's? i have a shop that can install for me cheap but the glass can run me a chunk of change. so i have been considering of going through the used glass/junkyard as to going to the friggin dealer. i doubt this is covered under warranty or is it??

thanks in advance.

when you say PPG you mean the brand PPG that has a self-cleaning glass or is it a different material used for glass?

Uh... a windshield does more than shield the wind... it saves your life in an accident. PPG make the best glass in the world for cars, so good, 99.9% of auto manufacturers use them as OEM. When replacing glass, always ask if the glass is PPG.

BTW, insurance covers most glass coverage. Mine did.

PPG glass used under my Wawa full coverage ins.
$50 deductable. All Star Glass said the total was $407 pts and labor.

I'm gonna call the dealer and see if it is the exact same glass they would have ordered for $917. The All Star phone rep asked the dealer which manufacturer it would be and they said "we won't know until it arrives."
I'm calling b.s.

I had mine replaced for $280 and its PPG. The guy came to my house and did the repair in about 30 minutes but your deductible of only $50 still beats the $280 I spent.

SC ftw... long as you have full coverage insurance, no charge at all on windshield replacement.

Mine was done a couple of months ago...something baseball-sized smashed into my windshield on the interstate going about 80.

Most likely a fetus.

Haha, actually, I have no idea. Just saw it come flying at me and hit the windshield just below my line of vision. Sprayed glass all over the dash.

Ive been through 3 windshields because I do a lot of highway traveling and during the winter months a lot of rock salt gets thrown up on the windshield.

I used diamond auto glass vs Safelite(Overpriced).

It cost me $210 every time with the guy coming to me and replacing the windshield with new molding.

Not worth the $325 for Safelite. Also, windshields need to meet specifications for safety and are tempered all alike. So during an auto accident, one windshield "shouldnt" hold up better than another.

Also, no offense against people with a $50 deductible, but it is pointless. The $50 deductible and the amount more that they pay every 6 months vs my $1000 deductible will not account for the $165 ($215 actual cost -$50 for deductible) they saved for a windshield replacement and also a deductible claim showing up on their insurance.

Anyone with a $50 deductible is giving the insurance company their hard earned money and need to rethink that logic.

yeah, i somewhat agree but how many xtimes do u have a claim in a yr.
i think a deductible of $250 - $500 is more reasonable.

$1000 is just to much in my opinion.

there is quite a lot u cud do with 1k.

Eh, this isn't an insurance thread so it's not worth going back and forth. I would possibly consider $500 but I'd rather spend my insurance money in other places by getting high property and bodily damage coverage vs lowering my collision deductible.

When my fiancee got her CL totaled by some girl with Safe Auto the girl only had 10K property damage and the car was totaled out at 18K. Can you guess where the other 8K was going to come from? Poor girl
