Smile DIY Homelink Repair

After makng several searches on replacing my homelink on my 03 CL-S 6spd due to bad map light buttons/switches I found a solution to fix the unit. First of all, to purchase a replacement its about $275-300 thru Acura dealer. Auto Salvage places want about $120-165 for the link. Well, I went to a auto salvage location her in Houston TX and a Mexican worker was taking me to the car so that I can show him the part since the Chinese owner of the Salvage place did not know what I wanted.

They had the part but it was doing the same thing as my original part. Push on buttons, no clicks/resistance and no lights coming on. Between the Mexican and I (Puerto Rican-not racist) we analyzed the part and we came to the conclusion that basically the unit works when you apply pressure from the top of the Homelink and press the buttons. We notice that the pieces are solder by plastic which keeps the parts together when new, but with time it becomes lose/weak as you push on the map lights and the stuff just seperates with time. Funny thing is that the one in the salvage lot had the same side damaged as mine. The passsenger side.

Solution is very simple:Purchase Plastic Expoy at local Auto Parts $7-8
1 remove unit by removin for screws
2 disconnect plug that controls HL
3 apply Resin/Expoy to the two spots on the plastic b/w the white unit(light holder) and beige unit(sunglass/link housing)
4 hold units together for 3- 5 minutes and Voila unit is stuck together again.
5 solid buttons that click and turn light on and off again.
6 Save myself $240 Priceless

Btw, This home link crap is poor craftmanship and is not worth the $300 that the dealers charge for it. All combine that shit should not be more than $140-170 brand new.

Good job! If mine stop working, I'd try this out or look in the BM for a replacement. There's also someone parting out a CL locally on craigslist. I'm sure they won't charge me that much for "just the sunglass holder" lol

Unfortunately, the sunglass holder and the homelink is one unit. Cant purchase pieces. It's all or none. You may not pay $240 but a good $100-140 for a used one.
