Ckeck Engine and TCS Lights!!!
Ckeck Engine and TCS Lights!!!
Greetings from this new member from Maryland,
Recently purchased a 2001 Acura CL "as is" with 92,000 miles for my college-bound son. Transmission was replaced through recall by Accura in January 2007. It appears from the available maintenance and Carfax records to be the first 'tranny' replacement.
Today the amber check engine light came on and stayed on. This light, when illuminated, displays what looks to be a representation of an engine. Also the Traction Control System (TCS) light comes on intermittantly. Restarted the engine and TCS stays off for a time, while check engine light immediately comes on with each restart (while parked). The owners' manual returns information about probable causes being the emission control system, gas cap not fitting properly, etc.
Car runs great, engine feels and sound tight, and nothing unusual to report on the transmission (no flashing indicators). Checked the fluid and it is clean and bright red.
My son is a new driver and although he is fully aware that the fuel requirement for the CL is 91+ octane, is it possibe to generate the above symptoms if he "accidentally" put in a lower octane (87-89) fuel?
Are there other possible causes? And where may a person gather information about the "computer maintenance codes" we read about so often on this forum/
Thanks in advance,

I Have a 2001 TYPE S and had the same problems. It was a Faulty knock sensor. while it does not effect the perfomance of the car in the long run it will effect the engine. An animal had chewed through my knock sensor wires and had to be replaced. cost about 200 after labor.
mine had the tranny replaced at 78k, its an 01 cls.....and they replaced the mounts...last night i was driving just cruising the tcs, vsa and check engine light came on all at once and the car didnt wanna shift till 5 or 6k and then it would shift hard.....and at idle the car idles at 500 to 700 and pulses....i set in park turn off and restart and the vsa and tcs go of but engine remains..it did it 3 times today also...is goin back to acura for the tranny mount popping and now im not sure if i can wait another week cuz its getting worse...the tranny has 7k on it now and shouldnt be gone already;....i dont dog it from a stop or anything just cruisin around and flooring it occasionally..im getting frustrated with it. the code i got was 0122 which says throttle/pedal position sensor switch a low input...any ideas or thoughts?
