Car is revving...and its in neutral (6MT)

So i final got around to change my driver side headlight, replaced them with 6000k Bulbs....looks pretty good now.

I got a problem with the engine just revving up and down. As i was driving around, the car was just constantly giving gas...up and down. It was like switching gears and not engaging the gas because it was getting it. Anyone have this same, similiar problem? I'm going to check to see if i did something wrong with i took apart the air filter box to get to the headlight.

Any suggestions would be great...

Sounds like a bad IAC valve. Or vacuum leak. Doubt it was related to anything you did.

Idle air control valve (IACV). You need to either clean it or buy a new one.

I have the same exact problem. My car revs up in park, neutral, and D4. When I come to a stop the car jerks as if it wants to drive its self. Check Engine lamp has been on for some time now.

Yes. Hence the "you either need to clean it or buy a new one".

Thought maybe a vacuum tube...check the lines...didn't replace anything...problem did go away by itself.

Bumping this. Been getting this problem whenever I hit stop and go bumper-to-bumper traffic. It will rev at 3 rpm in neutral, and when I press the clutch down the RPM's go higher! (wtf?) I can stay in 1st without any feet on the pedals and the car will be moving on its own at like 30 km/hr. As soon as I get out of stop-and-go traffic and pick up speed and shifting gears normally it will snap out of it. Is this IACV?

Sounds like it.

Or the throttle body butterfly is getting stuck. Or possibly a vacuum leak.

Just clean the IACV with carb cleaner to remove carbon deposit in the chambers.

Well, dammit, there went mine too. Is there a link or detailed instructions to what I need to do to clean it? I just started my car after being gone on deployment and now it's doing this crap. Apparently the hood decides it doesn't want to stay up either. Looks like I know ANOTHER thing I'll be doing on my first weekend back at the house.

My hood struts are out also. They lasted 9 years tho so can't complain.

OK. Anybody know a store I can pick the 5 point star Torx bit from? Auto Zone is a NoGo, online stores average $20 before shipping cost AND I have to wait (even longer) for processing/shipping/delivery and Sears appears to have them but they want $60+. Stupid move Acura.

Hood struts are just one of those simple things you expect to last a lifetime. HAHAHA

I went to Sears and picked up a set of the torx bits for ~$20. Did you go into the store or check online? Do you have any Harbor Freights or Northern Tools near you?

I looked online at Sears but I was planning to go into the actual store. I know they usually sell other tools a la carte. I looked up Harbor Freight this morning, they have one in Laurel. Will look up Northern Tools shortly...actually forgot about them. Thanks for the tips. No pun intented.

Hope one of them has them...on the cheap low.

Wanted to report back about my personal issue. Yeah...IACV. Spent too much time waiting on special bits and second guessing. Replaced the IAC valve...runs like a champ.

My IACV went out today. Same issue. Idled up and down from about 2500 rpm. It also was very rough on the engagement/disengagement of decel fuel cut. Stopped by a local Autozone on the way to work and they had one in stock for 90 bucks. Took me 15 minutes to replace it once I got home. Dont remove the throttle and cruise cables, just unbolt the throttle body and flip it over. Simple as pie, back to new
