I tried resetting the code, but only the maintenance light turns off.

 

LOL that's your check engine light if that's what you're asking

 

The resetting you did (holding the trip buttons) resets the maintenance dummy light. You need an OBDII scanner to reset the CEl.

Go to AutoZone and have them read the code and post it here. The issue is not resetting the light, it's figuring out what's causing it.

 

Weird how the 03s have that but my 01 has the same symbol with "Check Engine" written inside. Seems almost a step back.

 

That ligh is the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. That is a bad thing when it comes on. You can reset a CEL with OBDII scanner only. Not with reset/select buttons. If that light is on is due to a malfunction. get it scan ASAP to get codes. It can be a multitude of things. Good Luck

 

Yeah, stupid me. for some reason I thought the maintenance light was the check engine light. Thanks for clearing that up. LOL, It end up being a knock sensor and sub-wire, which I replaced over this weekend.
