Ballast, Ingnitor or Invertor?

Okay, let me preface this post with...Yes, I searched both the CL and TL forums for this question and I didn't see anyone with this particular symptom so please forgive me if I am asking a redundant question.

Car has just over 70k on it. Noticed driving home that my Driver side headlight was flickering like I was at a rave, and that both my high beams were lit, but very faintly like they were only getting a 1/4 power, they kinda look leak weak fogs built in to the headlight assembly. If I clicked my high beams on, both HB's would come on as normal. A couple of days later headlight stopped flickering and went totally out the driver HB is still faintly lit, now when I switch to high beams, only the passenger side HB lights up and the driver side goes out.

So I found out that an igniter is $477 at Acura for part alone. Does this sound like a ballast, igniter, inverter problem or something that anyone else experienced prior to a big ticket repair? Thanks as always, maybe time for a new TL or something...damn I love my CL-S though.

isnt the ballast/ignitor/inverter the same thing? the Highbeams are wired seperately from the low beams i believe.

i thought it was a bulb problem..

changed the bulbs nothing worked...
i am still not sure what it could be?

If the bulb is flickering or you can turn off and on the light and stays on for a few minutes then the issue is your ballast/invertor. It will cost nothing if you have an extended warranty, however if the previous is not available then it will cost about $389 plus labor at the Acura Deal. I had it done about 6 months ago with my warranty. Good Luck

hey man...check your fuses under the hood. i was recently checking why my right headlight bulb wouldn't light up and i played with the fuses. when you pull either the right or left headlight fuse out...thats what happens. the light flickers like its crazy and the high beam stays on dimly lit. good luck.

Yo! I did all of the above and yes, it was a bad ballast. I wrote up a DIY for installing a set of after market ballasts and 10k bulbs:

Came out pretty good in MHO
